Oprah Abandons Dieting Efforts, Focuses on Staying Healthy and Fit (Good for Her!)By Mike Adams, December 9, 2008 | Key concepts: Oprah, Dieting and Weight loss She's not proud of it, but Oprah admits her weight has passed the 200-pound mark, and she's given up on trying to stay thin. It's a lot of working to stay fit and trim, especially when you're one of the world's best-known celebrities with unimaginable demands on your time. The very act of working out for one hour probably costs Oprah at least $5,000 in indirect financial losses (her time is really that valuable). The truth is, even forty pounds of extra weight can be carried quite well on an individual if they follow a healthful diet and exercise regularly. It's not the body fat itself that's so dangerous to your health; it's the lack of exercise and the poor diets that usually accompany excess body fat. If Oprah can follow a healthy diet and work out regularly, I believe she can be quite healthy even while carrying 40 pounds (or more) of excess body fat. Of course, it all comes down to what she's eating. If it's healthful, organic food combined with lots of superfood supplements and nutritional therapies, she'll be fine. If it's refined junk food and sweets, then she'll be in trouble. Can you really become overweight by eating healthful foods? Absolutely! The raw food diet, for example, is loaded with nuts. I've seen people actually gain body fat on raw foods (although most people tend to lose body fat, you should know). You can also over-do the healthful desserts. Eating "organic" ice cream is a contradiction, in my view, and you're not going to lose weight eating dairy products. I've always admired Oprah's strength of character, and I've felt that her critics were cruel in blasting her for her body weight challenges. She's done a lot of good for many people over the years, and she deserves to eat in peace. Leave Oprah alone, I say, and just let her be fine with whatever body weight she settles on. We don't all have to look like athletes to have something important to contribute to society. I'm also tired of seeing people latch on to Oprah's coattails all the time, claiming they're "Oprah's coach" or "Oprah's nutritionist" or "Oprah's favorite friend." Just because Oprah ate your food bar doesn't mean it's her favorite food bar. Everybody tries to ride Oprah's success, and everybody wants to be on Oprah, but rarely do individuals exhibit the kind of personal integrity that should be required to receive that kind of attention.
