Bush to End Protection of Endangered Animals Before Leaving Office

When you already have a legacy of committing war crimes, condoning the torture of war prisoners, spying on your own citizens and overseeing the greatest financial disaster in the history of human civilization, it's hard to add something similarly sinister to your resume. But the Bush Administration is determined to do the most damage possible to the planet before ending its reign of terror on January 20th, 2009.
The latest ploy? An effort to drop virtually all protections for endangered animals and plants, allowing government agencies that are utterly ignorant of wildlife to make key decisions about whether wildlife habitats might be harmed by government-funded construction projects.
While some might think it stupid to hold up the construction of an interstate in order to protect a rare species of spotted owl, humans remain dangerously ignorant of the web of biological life that makes human life possible on our planet, and the human-initiated fifth wave of extinction of our planet is bound to have devastating consequences. Protecting rare species is vital to protecting the sustainability of human life on our planet. The Bush Administration, of course, is too short-sighted to recognize anything beyond the next election cycle.
