Astronaut's Recycled Urine Water Cleaner than Tap Water

NASA has announced its astronauts will soon be drinking recycled urine water on upcoming missions. While it may sound odd to a lot of people, the water coming out of the NASA filtering equipment is a lot cleaner than the water coming out of your kitchen tap. That's because public water supplies in the U.S. and other countries are intentionally contaminated with highly toxic chemicals such as fluoride, chlorine and the chemical byproducts of chlorine (such as chloramines).
Note that NASA doesn't add fluoride and chlorine to the astronauts' water. And you know why? Because they don't want their astronauts to get sick in space.
From Reuters.com: It's a water-recycling device that will process the crew's urine for communal consumption. "We did blind taste tests of the water," said NASA's Bob Bagdigian, the system's lead engineer. "Nobody had any strong objections. Other than a faint taste of iodine, it is just as refreshing as any other kind of water."... more
