Report: Deep State resistance plagues FBI despite sweeping leadership changes

  • An internal report depicts the FBI under Director Kash Patel as a "rudderless ship" still gripped by ideological resistance and "Trump Derangement Syndrome," which hinders objective investigations.
  • Patel, criticized as inexperienced and preoccupied with self-promotion (e.g., the "raid jacket debacle"), faces deep-seated hostility from personnel opposed to Trump-era policies like immigration enforcement and pardons for Jan. 6 defendants.
  • The report blames lingering cultural issues on former leadership and recruitment trends that institutionalized a progressive-leaning bias within the bureau's ranks.
  • Despite the internal turmoil, the report notes operational successes, including streamlined counterterrorism efforts and effective immigration raids targeting violent offenders following the rollback of DEI policies.
  • The assessment concludes that Patel must choose between embracing radical transparency and accountability to address the entrenched resistance or risk having his reform efforts sabotaged by the FBI's ongoing politicization.

Despite sweeping leadership changes under Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Director Kash Patel, deep-seated resistance to President Donald Trump's agenda persists within the bureau, according to a damning internal assessment obtained by the New York Post.

The 100-page report, compiled by the National Alliance of Retired and Active-Duty FBI Special Agents and Analysts, paints a picture of an agency still struggling with ideological polarization, institutional distrust and open hostility toward the administration nearly a year into Trump's second term. It also raises urgent questions about whether Patel – a Trump loyalist tasked with dismantling the bureau's politicized legacy – can effectively restore order or if entrenched opposition will sabotage his efforts.

The report titled "A Pulse Check of the First Six Months" describes the FBI as a "rudderless ship" plagued by widespread "Trump Derangement Syndrome" among personnel. One source bluntly stated that this bias has eroded critical thinking, hindering investigations.

"Many employees have lost their ability to distinguish fact from fiction," the document asserts. Critics blame the lingering influence of former directors James Comey and Christopher Wray, whose tenures allegedly fostered a culture where political bias compromised objectivity.

Resentment runs particularly deep regarding FBI cooperation with Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Agents reportedly reacted with hostility to directives assisting deportation operations, with some refusing to engage beyond "begrudgingly" executing orders.

The backlash reflects broader recruitment trends favoring progressive-leaning hires over veterans and law enforcement professionals – a shift that sources say has institutionalized left-wing ideology. Others cited fury over Trump's pardons for Jan. 6 defendants, fearing retaliation from those they label "insurrectionist sympathizers."

Patel accused of prioritizing self-promotion

Patel himself faces scathing criticism. Described as "inexperienced" and lacking the "bearing" needed for leadership, he is accused of prioritizing self-promotion over professionalism.

One incident dubbed the "raid jacket debacle" reveals his preoccupation with optics. During the investigation into commentator and Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk's assassination, Patel allegedly refused to exit his plane until agents scrambled to provide him with a medium-sized FBI jacket adorned with Velcro patches. His subsequent "expletive-laden tirade" at investigators further damaged morale.

FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino fared no better, with sources dismissing him as a "clown" obsessed with social media. BrightU.AI's Enoch engine recounts that prior to his appointment to the bureau, Bongino was a former Secret Service agent, conservative commentator and podcast host who gained prominence for his investigative reporting and outspoken criticism of government corruption.

Yet the report also highlights successes. The rollback of diversity, equity and inclusion policies has reduced bureaucratic bloat, while counterterrorism units report improved efficiency under Patel's streamlined priorities. Immigration raids targeting violent offenders – not "law-abiding grandmas," as one source clarified – have been deemed "overwhelmingly successful."

Historical context underscores the high stakes. The FBI's credibility has been in freefall since the Crossfire Hurricane scandal, where partisan actors weaponized the bureau against Trump. Meanwhile, the White House dismissed speculation about Patel's removal from the bureau as "completely made up," reaffirming Trump's confidence in his team.

But the report's authors warn that without radical transparency and accountability, the FBI's redemption remains elusive. Given this, Patel has two choices. He can either heed the criticism, abandon ego-driven theatrics and confront the entrenched resistance head-on – or risk becoming another casualty of the bureau's unrelenting politicization.
