Self-destruction and other shameful pleasures of humanity

(NaturalNews) If you think we do not enjoy destroying ourselves, then the world must not make sense to you. If you believe people are not attracted to self-defeat, then you haven't looked around.

My purpose in discussing the secret pleasures of self-destruction is not pessimistic, but optimistic. I believe we are capable of seeing and acknowledging even the most painful and hidden elements about our existence. When we do, we can break free of them.

Our tendencies toward self-destruction are only part of the human condition. The rest is straightforward. One the surface, we want to be happy and co-exist peacefully. Will our conscious desires for happiness win over our unconscious bend toward extinction? It seems like a race against time. When will we wake up from our delusion that all is well?

There is evidence of our willingness to destroy ourselves, slowly or quickly, on too many levels to ignore

As a species, human beings:

• Destroy our planet while gloating in corporate profits
• Destroy our bodies while enjoying toxic amounts of alcohol, tobacco, food and drugs
• Abuse our children
• Poison our food and water supply
• Continue a history of war, genocide, slavery, human trafficking, racism, terrorism, and sanctioned public abuse, with no end in sight
• Reject simple and obvious solutions to all of the above

In fact, while these things are happening all around us, we're gleefully engaged in the latest episode of some reality television series, laughing at people who stab each other in the back on their way to win a prize.

Some argue that focusing on such negativity only gives it more power

This kind of thinking is part of the problem. Identifying a problem does not give the problem more power. It is a critical step toward solutions. Hyper-focusing on the positive is yet another way human beings ignore problems. In fact, isn't blissful ignorance of problems eerily similar to taking pleasure in the destruction those problems cause? We desperately need to see how we orchestrate our own demise if we are to put a stop to it.

To shine the light on large-scale darkness, I am convinced each of us needs to be willing to shine light into the darkness of our individual souls. How am I orchestrating my own physical, mental, emotional and spiritual demise? How are you orchestrating yours?

Rather than continue writing a plethora of examples demonstrating how people appear to have it in for themselves, I will offer a challenge to you

Ask yourself, "How am I unconsciously carrying out my own physical, mental, emotional or spiritual self-destruction?"

Share your answer in the comment section if you dare. I am not expecting many comments, even though this could be the most commented article in the history of Natural News.
