Huge story about coral reef destruction by 'environmentalist' totally censored by mainstream media

Coral reef destruction

(NaturalNews) Few hyperventilate as much about the environment, global warming, climate change and how Mankind is destroying the planet than the Left-wing Old Media. In fact, when there is a dearth of news on the overall subject of "the environment," the Old Media will simply rehash and repurpose earlier stories, just to keep the issue front and center in the minds of the people.

There is an exception to this unwritten rule of Old Media environmental reporting: when it harms interests that are friendly to Left-wing political ideologies in general.

As noted by Breitbart News and virtually no one else in the mainstream media, the billionaire owner of the Seattle Seahawks NFL team and the Portland Trailblazers NBA team just recently destroyed thousands of square feet of precious coral reef with his mega-yacht, but you've probably not heard about it because, again, he's a Democrat, supposed "environmentalist" and is simpatico with the Old Media's Marxist agenda.

The yacht, owned by Paul Allen, chewed up some 14,000 square feet of Cayman Islands reef when its anchor chain dragged across the Cayman's West Bay replenishment zone.

Gas guzzlers

As noted by the Cayman News Service, local Department of Environment officials confirmed the damage, noting that some 80 percent of the zone had been destroyed. CNS further reported:

Early findings already indicate extensive damage and investigations into the circumstances of the incident are ongoing, with the assistance of staff aboard the Microsoft billionaire's superyacht, which was anchored close to the Doc Poulson wreck and The Knife dive site, officials said.

(Say, Paul – how much fossil fuel does your yacht burn?)

Environmental officials said anyone who damages the reef zones can be fined, but no one who has done so in recent years has actually been levied. Still, this incident would have been a "big deal" if, say, a Donald Trump or other billionaire or public figure with different political views of, say, environmental issues, had committed this sin against the earth.

For his part, Allen has regularly supported projects that seek to protect coral reefs, but he has yet to step up and take blame for his Caymans incident, Breitbart News reported. He may yet, we'll see, but the larger issue is the fact that the old mainstream media ignored the story.

Dennis Mitchell, a CPA/QEP who has been involved in environmental issues for four decades, and David R. Legates, a professor of Climatology at the University of Delaware, wrote at Breitbart:

The yacht Tatoosh is the size of many WWII naval vessels (nearly the size of a football field), but it is not the biggest personal yacht Allen operates. His yacht Octopus has even bigger fossil-fuel-consuming tentacles. Is it absolutely necessary for a conservationist to own at least two giant, fossil fuel-burning ships and to fly in his personal Boeing 737 down to the warmer climates during the colder months? Moving those floating hotels around to pick up Mr. Allen can overwork a crew and perhaps make them less vigilant. Thus, the poor little rocky Cnidarian polyps were the victims of Tatoosh's anchor chains.

Allen and Gore should shut up

For our part, we don't care that Allen has been wildly successful in his business and professional life. With Microsoft being the principal computing firm on the planet, how could he not have made billions and billions of dollars, right? So what? He and anyone else ought to be able to legally earn whatever they can during their lives, since you only live once (and Microsoft – as well as the professional sports teams he owns – are major employers, so his wealth helps others as well).

What's galling about this besides the utter silence from the old mainstream media is that Allen is such a staunch environmentalist who, like so many other wealthy environmentalists (former Vice President Al Gore comes to mind), love to lecture the rest of us about how we ought to be living an environmentally cleaner life while hypocritically failing to do so themselves.

If Allen and Gore and the rest want to fly on personal jets, sail big boats and heat and cool large homes, fine – they can knock themselves out. But they need to shut up about lecturing the rest of us on buying electric cars, adjusting our thermostats and being more "energy-efficient."

As for the old mainstream media deciding to look the other way on this massive environmental story, well, it's just another example of how today's corporate press continues to live down to low expectations.
