(NaturalNews) In a moment of what may have been unbelievable candor, a CNN host demonstrated why hers is one of the least-watched cable news channels on the air today.

Her name: Brooke Baldwin.

As reported by Breitbart News' media critic John Nolte, Baldwin made the outrageous insinuation that veterans, somehow, were responsible, at least in part, for the riots recently taking place in Baltimore.

"After more than a year of CNN pouring gasoline all over America with hysterical, and oftentimes phony, stories of American racism, the left-wing network's afternoon anchor Brooke Baldwin finally took it to the next level by blaming American veterans for the Baltimore riots."

"In a pathetic suck-up interview with Democrat Congressman Elijah Cummins, Baldwin never once had the moral courage to ask the failed Baltimore City congressman if the left-wing policies ushered in by a half-century of a Democrat monopoly in Baltimore might have something to do with the city's ills," Nolte wrote. "Instead, she said of young military veterans who become police officers, 'I love our nation's veterans, but some of them are coming back from war, they don't know the communities, and they are ready to do battle.'"

Liberal politics dominate the cities that are crumbling

And, of course, Cummins -- who, like race-baiters Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson -- is always quick to blame the African American community's ills on race, knocked Baldwin's softball question out of the park:

Yeah, they [the Baltimore Police Department] definitely need better training, they need better recruitment. And that's why I've been asking DoJ [the Department of Justice] to come in and do a 'pattern and practice' investigation, somewhat similar to the one done in Ferguson [Missouri, following the justified shooting of 18-year-old Michael Brown, who was assaulting Officer Darren Wilson, as a grand jury decided]. We really need to look at our police department, from top to bottom, and bottom to top, to find out what is being done....

But, as Nolte observed, Baltimore is a city that has long been run by Democratic liberals, and it is a city that has a majority African American population. Its mayors have been black; its city council members have been black; its police chiefs (including the current chief) have been black. So what Cummings and Baldwin are really suggesting is that the majority black, liberal city is to blame for the riots, as in, a failure of liberal policy -- even if they're too ideologically compromised to see it.

That's a theme which The Wall Street Journal's Editorial Page has pointed out. In a piece titled "The Blue-City Model," the paper noted in its online edition:

You're not supposed to say this in polite company, but what went up in flames in Baltimore Monday night was not merely a senior center, small businesses and police cars. Burning down was also the blue-city model of urban governance.

Nothing excuses the violence of rampaging students or the failure of city officials to stop it before Maryland's Governor called in the National Guard. But as order starts to return to the streets, and the usual political suspects lament the lack of economic prospects for the young men who rioted, let's not forget who has run Baltimore and Maryland for nearly all of the last 40 years.

The men and women in charge have been Democrats, and their governing ideas are "progressive."

How about blaming the rioters for a change?

WSJ editors went on to note that the typical Democratic progressive model relies primarily on government and public-sector unions, and that model has dominated urban American cities that once were vibrant -- like Baltimore -- for decades. The model has also contributed to the downfall and hollowing out of those cities; in 1960, Baltimore was the country's sixth largest city with a population of 940,000. Since then, it has lost one-third of its people and now doesn't even crack the top 25 cities, in terms of population.

"The dysfunctions of the blue-city model are many, but the main failures are three: high crime, low economic growth and failing public schools that serve primarily as jobs programs for teachers and administrators rather than places of learning," WSJ noted.

It isn't, in other words, "bad policing" caused by too many veterans on city police forces. And to even suggest as much is ludicrous. How about blaming those who are actually doing the rioting? Wouldn't that be a nice change for CNN?

For the record, Baldwin eventually apologized for her remarks, Nolte pointed out -- at first on Twitter and then on air, though she did not disclose what exactly she was apologizing for.

The nation's vets deserve a more sincere apology -- like, say, one that actually mentions her disrespect of the military.
