Hurst said the increase was driven largely by updated operational expenses and the repair and replacement of military equipment used during the conflict. The updated estimate marks another sharp increase in projected war spending after the DOW stated on April 29 that the conflict had cost approximately $25 billion, according to a Reuters report.
During Tuesday's hearing, Hurst also stated that at the time of testimony, the estimated cost of the Iran war was $25 billion dollars, referencing the earlier estimate provided in April by War Secretary Pete Hegseth. Some internal government assessments reportedly place the total cost significantly higher.
