(Natural News) Many a conservative has been known to complain about America’s descent into socialism, accusing Democrats of sending us there with the occasional serving of stimulus crumbs. The reality, though, is that the United States has been a socialist country for many decades – it is just that the beneficiaries have always been large corporations as opposed to ordinary people.

One of the most socialized industries in our country is chemical agriculture, which is heavily subsidized with American tax dollars to produce a seemingly endless supply of genetically modified (GMO) junk food crops. These crops are then used to manufacture the heavily processed junk food that litters American grocery stores and fast-food chains.

The American government claims that this type of corporate agriculture must be heavily subsidized to ensure that the country has more than enough “staple” items at the lowest possible cost. Small farmers who grow healthy food, meanwhile, are left to suffer without any government aid.

Without these socialist subsidies in place, the entire large-scale agriculture model “would no longer be economically viable,” warns a new report by the Family Farm Action Alliance (FFAF), nor would it be “competitive with independent farmers and ranchers.”

The FFAF is trying to change this paradigm to create a true free market for agriculture – one that without corporate socialism would produce a whole lot more healthy food at affordable prices. If the government would simply butt out of the situation, the American people could decide for themselves which food crops they want to grow and consume.

Unfortunately, too many Americans are still woefully unaware of these subsidies. And the farmers that are used to taking them, many of them raking in millions in the process, are certainly not going to put a stop to them. So, who will?

The FFAF is working on it by releasing these types of reports and advocating for people to get involved with reforming the American food system.

“Time and time again family farmers, rural communities and good food movement advocates have pushed to shift government support away from industrial agriculture and toward a more resilient and equitable system,” says Joe Maxwell, president of the FFAF.

“Time and time again, we have failed – because Big Ag controls the narrative. Our report offers a playbook to counter Big Ag’s deception and finally break their stranglehold on our food system.”

If you are conservative who hates socialism, tell your government to stop socializing chemical agriculture

According to the FFAF, America’s entire agribusiness model is “economically flawed” as it “intentionally evade[s] costs all along their supply chains.” These costs are then passed on to “poorly paid and badly treated” agricultural workers, rural communities, and consumers who are forced to contend with “unequal access to affordable, healthy food.”

After that, these costs “eventually surface in the form of taxpayer-funded subsidies, a degraded environment and poor public health outcomes,” the report goes on to reveal.

Much of the agriculture supply chain is stricken with slave labor, enormous debt, high insurance premiums, weather- and pest-related yield decreases, drinking water contamination, and more – all because it is a highly unnaturally system that enriches a small few at the expense of the poor many.

If you are a conservative who is truly serious about fighting socialism, then you will get your behind into action and oppose any further subsidies to the large-scale chemical and corporate agriculture systems that continue to dominate this country.
