Family of New York Times has ties to slavery and Confederacy, so the “cancel culture” mob has to tear it down, right?

In a series of columns over the span of two weeks, New York Post writer Michael Goodwin dropped some bombshells on the family that owns rival paper The New York Times, and frankly, it should have been enough to ignite the Left-wing Marxist “cancel culture” mob.

But it hasn’t so far, and that in and of itself is telling.

In his first column, published July 11, Goodwin exposed the Times for its historical ties to racism:

Four years after it abandoned its traditional standards of fairness to try to defeat Donald Trump, the paper is now fixated on rewriting the story of America. The drive-by attack on the Rushmore presidents was part of its cancel-culture agenda.

Yet the Times has never applied to its own history the standards it uses to demonize others. If it did, reporters there would learn that the Ochs-Sulzberger family that has owned and run the paper for 125 years has a “complicated legacy” of its own.

First and foremost, he noted that the Times’ patriarch, Adolph S. Ochs, not only supported the Confederacy, but he actually contributed money to the building and fashioning of Confederate monuments the paper now pretends to hate — one of them being Stone Mountain in Georgia, featuring images of top Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee and General Stonewall Jackson.

“The legacy complications begin with Ochs, a Tennessee businessman who took control of the struggling New York Times when he was just 38 years old. He already owned the Chattanooga Times, which he called a conservative Democratic newspaper — at a time when nearly all black citizens in the South were Republicans,” Goodwin wrote.

He noted further that Ochs brought his Southern sympathies with him to New York. Ten years after taking over the paper, it published a glowing account of Confederate President Jefferson Davis.

Meanwhile, Ochs’ parents, Julius and Bertha Levy, were German Jewish immigrants who had differing views on slavery. Accounts of the time noted that Julius abhorred the slave trade, but that Bertha “embraced a contemptuous antebellum view of blacks, and for the rest of her life was dogmatically conservative, even reactionary.”

In fact, a descendant of hers called her “that Confederate lady.” She had at least two brothers who joined the Confederate army.

The following week, Goodwin added to his original report, noting that he had discovered evidence that members of the Ochs’ extended family in the South were indeed slaveholders.

After recounting what he had written earlier, Goodwin adds, “A week ago, I was ‘aware of no evidence or claims that any members of Bertha’s family owned slaves or participated in the slave trade.’

“That statement is no longer accurate. I have found compelling evidence that the uncle Bertha Levy Ochs lived with for several years in Natchez, Miss., before the Civil War owned at least five slaves,” he noted.

Goodwin cited records regarding John Mayer [Levy], “a store owner and prominent leader of the small Jewish community in Natchez” dating to the 1860 Census showing that a separate “slave schedule” lists two males, ages 70 and 26, and three females — 65, 45, and 23 — as being his.

“That makes it likely that Mayer had slaves when niece Bertha lived with him for several years before she married Julius Ochs in 1853. Mayer and his wife had 14 children and were affluent enough that it would have been unusual if they didn’t own slaves, according to Robert Rosen, author of ‘The Jewish Confederates,’” the NY Post columnist noted further.

These columns have been out for days now — where is the outrage from the Left-wing ‘woke’ brigades? Why aren’t they calling for The New York Times’ owners to either sell the paper or tear it down?

The answer is obvious: The Times is the leader of the anti-Trump resistance. So, like Ralph “Blackface” Northam got away with posing in a pic with a KKK outfit, the Times will be excused by the same hypocrites. See NYTwatch.com for more accurate reporting about the treacherous New York Times.
