We've all had those great mornings where we wake up feeling refreshed and ready to tackle the day, but few of us can claim that we awaken with that feeling every morning. Now, holistic lifestyle expert Sarah Jones has shared some simple yet highly effective sleep tips with the Daily Mail that can help you wake up with the energy you crave.

First and foremost, she suggests sleeping in the proper position. She says that our body has two main energy channels: the Sun and the Moon, and the channel opposite the side on which you sleep will be activated. When you sleep on your right side, you'll activate the moon channel, while sleeping on your left side will activate your Sun channel.

She suggests avoiding sleeping in any one position for too long, dividing your sleeping time between the two sides of your body if at all possible. You should try sleeping with your head toward the south and your legs toward the north. Alternatively, you can sleep with your head toward the east and your legs toward the west. However, you should avoid sleeping with your head toward the west or north.

In addition, you should pay attention to three crucial curves in your body: the one in your lower back, the one in the middle of the back, and the one near your neck.

Avoid blue light

Another piece of sound advice Jones offers is turning off any blue lights at least an hour before you go to bed. Blue light is particularly disruptive in the evening hours because it turns off your body's production of the sleep hormone melatonin. This means your TV, smartphone, computer and tablet should all be avoided just before bed because they disrupt your sleep and zap your energy.

Use essential oils, humidifiers

A humidifier in your room can help clear the air to promote peaceful slumber. As an added bonus, it will help hydrate your skin as you sleep. You should also hydrate immediately upon awakening. This means drinking a glass of water – preferably warm lemon water – as soon as you get up. Think about it: your body has just spent around eight hours without drinking and is quite likely dehydrated. Your body won't be able to start moving, detoxifying, and providing you with energy until it gets hydrated. Jones promises you'll notice a difference right away if you drink somewhere in the range of 300 to 500 ml of water as soon as you wake up.

Essential oils derived from certain flowers and herbs can also help calm overactive systems, particularly those oils that are warm and sweet. Use an oil diffuser to spread the calming and soothing scents of vanilla, sandalwood, or lavender throughout your room. You can also add them to a warm bath to promote sleep. Calming herbs such as valerian or chamomile can be consumed as a tea to help your body relax.

Remove clutter from your sleep area

Having a messy disaster for a bedroom can have a surprising effect on your sleep. Being surrounded by clutter can make you restless. Don't think that shoving all that clutter under the bed will solve the problem, however; the space beneath your bed should be clean and clear to promote the healthy flow of Chi energy.

Finally, you really should skip that snooze button. Don't underestimate the power of waking up at a consistent time each day. Hitting the button makes it harder for you to get up and could affect your energy levels all day.
