Cloned meat isn't a health risk, but it's still cruel to animals

Surprisingly, I agree with the FDA on the issue of cloned food. Eating the flesh of cloned animals is no worse than eating the flesh of natural-born animals. I see absolutely no mechanism through which cloned animal meat poses any danger greater than that of non-cloned animal meat.

But let's face it: non-cloned animal meat is dangerous enoguh all by itself. If you knew what they put in hot dogs, the saying goes, you wouldn't dare eat it. And then there's mad cow disease, too.

And it gets worse: if you knew how they treated the animals that are slaughtered to bring you yet one more hamburger patty or checkin leg, you'd probably chuck your lunch right now. Must-watch video: The Meatrix (flash animation).

The real problem with using cloned animals for food isn't about the consumers: it's about the animals. It's inhumane enough that we currently raise these animals in despicable environments, but are we going to start breeding them in giant bio farm cloning projects now as a source of our energy? Sounds just like The Matrix to me. Copper top cows. But it's no laughing matter.
