(NaturalNews) Despite being outed as an unethical lying "academic," University of Florida Professor Kevin Folta isn't backing down, instead posting a barrage of illogical tweets in a cringe worthy episode of attacks and apparent self-defense.

Though Folta previously denied ties to the rich and powerful agricultural and chemical industry, hundreds of documents obtained through a Freedom of Information Request Act (FOIA) by the non-profit U.S. Right to Know (USRTK) group implicates him and other university faculty and staff in gross collusion with the biotech industry.

Chair of the Horticultural Sciences Department, Folta spent years relentlessly defending Big Ag, traveling on their dime as he engaged in lavish and frequent trips around the country promoting GMOs, leading USRTK and other clean food advocates to question his motives.

The FOIA requests delivered and confirmed what many have long suspected: Folta and other academics employed by taxpayer-funded institutions are colluding with the biotech industry to manipulate public opinion on GMOs and lobbying Congress to pass legislation favorable to Big Ag's patented seeds and pesticides.

Big Ag: "Independent scientists" are most effective at swaying public opinion

The emails offer a rare glimpse inside the vicious PR strategies of Big Ag, as Monsanto and other industry execs provide detailed instructions to university scientists, attempting to create game plans that they hope will ultimately dismantle the anti-GMO movement.

Their efforts focus particularly on states considering GMO-labeling laws but are also intent on pressuring Congress to prohibit states from enacting such laws through the Safe and Accurate Food Labeling Act, a.k.a. the DARK Act, or Denying Americans the Right to Know what's in their food.

Believing that perceivably "independent scientists" are the most effective way to sway public opinion about GMOs, the biotech industry enlisted their most eager and cooperative minion, Folta, to travel to Pennsylvania to testify against a GMO-labeling bill.

An email exchange between Folta and Cathleen Enright, executive vice president of the Biotechnology Industry Organization (another biotech front group), encourages Folta to stay in a nicer hotel next time while agreeing to fund all of his expenses including airfare, car rental, gas, hotel and meals. She wraps up the email thanking Folta for his "tireless voice."

In wake of this proof, rather than try to save face by remaining silent, or apologizing, Folta's made full use of his Twitter page refuting the evidence and viciously attacking the messengers, including New York Times journalist @EricLiptonNYT and Natural News.

Folta fabricates lies in "GMO 101" with House Agriculture and Rural Affairs Committee

Monsanto recruited Folta to testify at an Informational Meeting at the Pennsylvania House Agriculture and Rural Affairs Committee on October 6, 2014, in which Folta fabricated lies in an attempt to misinform the committee about GMOs.

Following testimony by GMO critics Stephanie Seneff Ph.D. and Charles Benbrook Ph.D., Folta argued: "This is a social debate and it's fueled by misinformation."

But Folta is the one spreading misinformation. When asked by Chairman John Maher (D-Allegheny) if everything humans eat is a GMO, he responded, "everything we consume is the result of human intervention." However, nothing could be further from the truth.

GMOs are created through gene-splicing techniques which allows DNA from one species to be injected into another species in a lab, creating combinations of plant, animal, bacteria and viral genes that don't occur naturally or through traditional crossbreeding methods.

Picking an apple off a tree or consuming any other native crops has long been possible without "human intervention."

The fabrications continued when Folta tried to assure the safety of GMOs by claiming that studies on animals fed a 100 percent GMO diet for 15 years produced no evidence of health risks. In fact, no such study has ever been completed.

Promoting the alleged benefits of GMOs per his agreement with Monsanto, Folta argued that GMOs actually lead to better consumer products and a cleaner environment. In actuality, with GMOs comes their associated pesticides, and how the dumping million of pounds of toxic glyphostate – the key ingredient in Monsanto's Roundup – makes for a cleaner Earth, Folta failed to explain.

There are however, innumerable studies citing the deadly effects that glyphosate has on soil, water, air, plant and animal life and public health.

Stay tuned for more reporting as Natural News continues to follow the latest developments in the controversy regarding university academics selling themselves out to industry while still posing as "independent scientists."
