(NaturalNews) The feeling of neediness is easy to default to, especially in a consumerist culture that's driven by marketing and outward appearances. Universally, feeling needy for anything is associated with a feeling of lack. That neediness and lack can only attract disappointment, emptiness and more lack. We never have enough when we constantly emanate feelings of need. If we think that we need more money to pay the bills, we will always come up short. If we appreciate the opportunities coming into our life and seize them, they will continue to manifest, opening up new pathways that dissipate the worry, the need.

That's why the happiest people do not feel needy at all, even if they are socially perceived as poor. Joyful people are thankful for who they are, where they've been, and what they have, moving toward their goals with diligence and appreciation. Living in a spirit of thanksgiving assures abundance for every moment, every step in life. Appreciating the little things in life -- nature and the relationships around us -- takes us away from needing things to fill our emptiness.

Feeling needy will always create more lack, void and discontentment. The more we feel that we need something, the more we feel that we lack something, and the more we will continue lacking whatever it is that we think we need, whether constructive or destructive.

Filtering out the messages that can ultimately make us feel hollow inside

In America, we are bombarded by commercials and advertisements feeding us negative, needy messages: you need this product, you need this cheeseburger, you need this car, and you need this pill. We consume these things, use them up, and when the initial excitement wears off, we ultimately feel like we need more. We have to learn to filter these messages and put a guard at the gate of our mind, sorting out the thoughts that could ultimately make us feel needy and selfish.

Lasting peace and joy comes from appreciation of the things that are unattainable -- the things that we cannot accumulate and intoxicate ourselves with. Abundance comes from building our character, learning, loving who we are, building others up, being in that moment where the experience makes the need melt away. Abundance comes from connecting with a power higher than ourselves and walking a spiritual journey of faith that transforms us from the inside out.

The journey is not of the physical realm

After all, the things that we think we need are ultimately consumed, flushed, broken and discarded. The things that truly fulfill us are the nostalgic recollections, the music playing in our memories, for we cannot take anything with us when we depart from our fleshly bodies. The spirit lives on.

In this understanding, we must not worry about the monetary things. Money is only a tool, a unit of energy, coming and going. Instead of being needy for money, we must learn to set our eyes on the good that can be done in this world -- starting within us and emanating from us -- something greater than ourselves. It's important not to feel the need for any of this, but to feel the appreciation for all that is and is to come. We must learn to smile in confidence, taking each step forward, appreciating the journey as it unfolds before our eyes. A life of revelation and faith awaits, lighting the path forward.
