(NaturalNews) Hospital workers have provisionally named him "Baby 59" after the incubator in which he was successfully rehabilitated and brought back to stable condition. But adding the word "miracle" somewhere in his title would seem more appropriate, seeing as how this underweight, Chinese newborn somehow survived being flushed down the toilet by his mother, where he was later rescued by being literally cut out of the sewage pipe in which his body was lodged.

This is the plot of the latest horror story to emerge out of China, where tenants at an apartment complex in China's eastern city of Jinhua recently heard what sounded like faint cries coming from the sewage pipes in their building. Upon investigation, it was determined that a newborn baby boy weighing just a few ounces had been flushed down the toilet, his foot still sticking out of the draining entry. Rescuers were immediately called to the scene, and the baby was eventually removed from the pipe still alive.

"Working together, doctors and rescuers used pliers to pull away bits of the pipe, eventually revealing the baby, its shoulders and head pressed against the pipe's lining," explains a CNN.com report. "The placenta was still attached."

It was later revealed that the mother of the child, a 22-year-old single woman, had watched the entire rescue in secret. Some reports also suggest that the woman may have been one of the first people to sound the alarm about the baby being in the pipes, even though she did not initially admit to being the boy's mother. She later fessed up to delivering the child, but claims it was all just an accident that went terribly wrong.

"That day she felt stomachaches," said Jiang Song, the vice director of police for the region where the incident took place, to CNN.com. "So she went to the toilet. It was actually close to her due date and the baby just slid out."

Investigators claim flushing was an 'accident,' even though mother admitted to not being able to afford abortion

According to local reports, the woman apparently struggled to get her baby out of the toilet upon delivery. She tried to use a stick to retrieve the child, but then decided to flush the toilet in order to clear away all the blood from the delivery. Since the child was small and underweight, he presumably went down the pipe along with the water, where he eventually became stuck at an "L" in the drainage system.

Local police say that the women proceeded to call her landlord and report a "strange sound" in the pipes below her unit. When police arrived, they found a pair of pants in the woman's apartment that were stained with blood. Firefighters and local emergency crews were immediately called onto the scene to cut out the pipes where the baby was lodged, and both pipe and baby were taken to Pujiang County People's Hospital in Jinhua.

Initially, the boy was suspected to have had a fracture in the top right section of his skull. But since being admitted to the hospital, he is reportedly in full recovery. And after word got out to the public about the incident, many people reportedly came to the hospital to deliver diapers, clothing, and baby formula. Some people had even asked if they could adopt the child.

"Our investigations showed it was an accident," claimed one local Chinese police officer to the AFP.

Other reports, however, claim the woman actually admitted to police that she delivered her child in the toilet because she could not afford an abortion, which suggests that the incident was a potential homicide attempt.
