Debunking the French GMO tumor study is a tsunami of lies

(NaturalNews) Before many could recover from the shock of seeing rats fed GMO corn with huge tumors, the mainstream press was already reporting scientists who claimed the French study was flawed.

The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) rejected University of Caen molecular biology researcher Professor Gilles-Eric Seralini's two year study as "insufficient scientific quality for risk assessment."

Ironically, a similar study of much shorter duration, 90 days, is what got Monsanto's NK 603 Roundup tolerant GMO maize (corn) and Roundup herbicide approved by the EFSA in the first place.

Seralini merely extended the study using the same type of rats to determine the toxic effects of feeding them GMO corn for two years. He also added a glyphosate herbicide solution into their drinking water at a level approved as safe for Roundup's water contamination.

Explaining the bias

Michael Pollan of the Food, Inc. movie and author of several books on food, agriculture, and ecology explained it this way to an audience at UC Berkeley where he is a graduate school journalism professor.

Pollan explained the mainstream's support for the scientists who are siding with genetic engineering and their rejection of the Seralini effort as a tendency to stick with "established scientists" while avoiding "fringe scientists." He was a little sarcastic with that.

But Pollan pointed out that Seralini's two year study was rejected as unscientific while Monsanto's 90 day effort was sufficient for EU approval, even though Seralini used the same elements and animals Monsanto used. But mainstream media outlets accept corporate research over independent research.

Although obvious tumors are what shocked most, Seralini's objective was toxicity outcomes, not carcinogenic results.

You can ask Dr. Arpad Pusztai what happens when you discover the truth about GMOs. He was a highly regarded UK biology researcher at the prestigious Rowett Institute, a Scottish nutritional laboratory. Pusztai was awarded a grant to establish a safety protocol for GMO foods with his 20 person team.

He never expected to find anything wrong with the GMO potatoes studied, but he did. Within days of publishing the team's findings, he was dismissed from the position he had held for decades. There are several other scientists on the list of slandered and publicly disgraced scientists who held their integrity intact by not selling out.

Other scientists' findings rejected

An EFSA statement that there is no corroboration from other animal and agricultural studies to support Seralini's findings is disturbing. Evidently, the biotech industry and their academic, scientific, and media minions never bothered to look into Dr. Pusztai and the other victims of Monsanto's purging.

Nor did they bother to contact Purdue University Professor Emeritus of Pathology Don Huber about his concerns with reports from farmers about their livestock dying more and birthing less since GMO feeds were introduced.

Huber was also concerned about how the soil is affected by glyphosate herbicides, such as Monsanto's Roundup. Not only is the soil's nutrient capacity diminished, but new pathogens are created.

Independent, third party research is difficult to pursue. The biotech industry uses patents and proprietary rights to block third party investigations with the law on their side. If any researcher manages despite those barriers, well, bye-bye career and reputation.

Monsanto and their ilk have friends in politically powerful positions, and they own the media. They won't even permit use of the precautionary principle to disrupt their rush to claim all seeds for all agriculture in the world.

But French scientist Seralini is fighting back. You're urged to view this seven-plus minute extended trailer for a soon to be released documentary "All of Us are Guinea Pigs Now." (http://healthmaven.blogspot.com)
