Cancer country: Baseball, hot dogs, apple pie and cancer - the new normal

(NaturalNews) Baseball, hot dogs, apple pie, and oh yeah, cancer - that's the good ole USA, where people lump together entertainment and disease, as if they come as a combo-package. Why in the heck are we all so accepting of this way of life, of this way of entertaining ourselves and then dying some horrific, unnecessary means of death? People accept cancer and the "limited" forms of treatment as if it's part of life's normal cycle: birth, school, work, entertainment, cancer, surgery, chemotherapy, radiation and death.

Every other man in the U.S. will contract cancer in his life. Only half will survive it. Every third woman in the U.S. will contract cancer in her life. Only half will survive it. What does this say about our ways and means of living responsibly, and guarding our bodies from the chemicals that breed disease? Are we all just lazy or are we being mis-educated by the forces that control food and medicine? The new "normal" is abnormal, and something must be done about it. The new normal

According to Harold Varmus, MD and Director of the National Cancer Institute (NCI), "Making cancer a disease you can live with and go to work with" is the new normal. In her new book, "A World Without Cancer," Dr. Margaret I. Cuomo, a radiologist, describes how Dr. Varmus suggests that many patients with lethal cancer can still work full-time and enjoy their families, as long as their symptoms are "kept under control" by radiotherapy and drugs. Basically, Varmus feels that this is "doing right" by the patients. (http://abcnews.go.com)

According to Cuomo's new book, analysts estimate that only two percent of the NCI's current total annual budget of approximately $5 billion is dedicated to prevention and early detection. Does this mean that only two percent of this monstrous budget is allocated to the most humane strategy? Yes, it does. The military metaphor "the war against cancer" is really just an onslaught of debilitating drugs that only ease the side effects of chemotherapy, and only limited forms of cancer even respond to that treatment. Worse yet, the cancers that do respond simply rescind temporarily, only to come back with a vengeance a month, a year, or a decade later.

Way back in 1988, scholars at UCLA complained in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) that biomedical research, with its clinical and laboratory emphasis, dominated the allocation of federal resources at the expense of preventive medicine. Dr. Cuomo appeared on "Morning Joe" on MSNBC recently and spoke about her book and how there are over 400 known carcinogens in standard food and skin care products that the FDA is well aware of and does nothing about. The bottom line here is that you cannot trust the FDA, the NCI, the ACS, the AMA (American Medical Association), or JAMA when it comes to forthright research and education, and the limiting of chemicals in food, cosmetics, and other skin care products. Currently, "Doctors are trying to deal with what's broken already, rather than trying to prevent it from getting broken," says Robert P. Heaney, M.D., a professor of medicine at John A. Creighton University School of Medicine in Omaha. So before you get too enthusiastic about the great medical advances of Western Medicine and some "cutting edge" wonder drug that you might hear about on a talk show or read about in some "medical journal," Dr. Cuomo suggests that you might "imagine for a moment what a transformative, courageous new approach to cancer could look like," saying that we should focus our mission to "prevent the trajectory of disease from ever getting started." (http://blogs.prevention.com)

Dr. Cuomo also says there is a "reassuring reminder that at least some of our resources are dedicated to prevention, early detection, and immunotherapy." When all is said and done, we have the knowledge and power to prevent MORE THAN HALF of all cancers with what we know right now. For starters, don't eat cancer.
