• Research carried out in the United States has raised the hope that one day there could be a vaccine against pancreatic cancer -- one of the most difficult cancers to treat successfully. The typical survival after surgery for pancreas cancer is 14-15 months. However, Dr Maki warned that patients should not get excited about the results of this research as it was too early to tell whether it would be possible to create a vaccine that could be used on all pancreatic cancer patients, and the patients involved in the trial had been carefully selected and might have been ones that would have done well anyway.
