Watch the ad that exposes false science throughout history: Tobacco, DDT, GMOs

by Jonathan Benson, staff writer

(NaturalNews) There was a time when manufacturers of the infamous pesticide chemical DDT and the herbicide chemical weapon "Agent Orange" actually tried to claim that these two toxins were completely safe for human exposure, a contention that the world now knows is completely false. And today, these same companies are trying to claim that genetically-modified organisms (GMOs) are also safe, and that there is no need to publicly disclose their presence in the food supply.

In a new television ad, the Yes on 37 campaign to mandate GMO labeling on foods sold in California exposes the dirty history of deceptive chemical marketing in America, which includes a clip from a 1940s commercial that promotes Camel cigarettes as the cigarette of choice among doctors. The ad also shows clips from misleading commercials promoting both DDT and Agent Orange as safe household items: http://youtu.be/Szq2GFYktG8

History of chemical deception linked to efforts to stop GMO labeling

As we recently pointed out, the No on 37 campaign trying to stop GMO labeling in California, which is heavily backed by Monsanto, DuPont, and the rest of the "Big Six" chemical giants, appears to be a product of the same forces that once manipulated science to claim cigarettes were safe. Not only are the ringleaders of No on 37 linked to Big Tobacco, but they are also linked to the promotion of pseudoscience like the recent Stanford Study that falsely claimed organic food is the same as conventional and GMO food. What many people also do not realize is that three of the biggest contributors to the No on 37 campaign, Monsanto, Dow, and DuPont, were also three of the corporations most responsible for foisting toxic DDT and Agent Orange on the world. This sheds a whole new light on why the combined contributions of the two companies towards efforts to stop GMO labeling in California already top $12 million -- if the public knew that their food contains GMOs, they would also quickly learn that GMOs have never been proven safe or beneficial in any way.

If Monsanto and DuPont were willing to lie about the safety of DDT and Agent Orange 50 or so years ago, what is to stop them from lying about the safety of GMOs today? And why are these two companies spending millions of dollars to oppose GMO labeling if GMOs are supposedly safe, as they both continually claim? The public needs to know the truth about what is actually going on here, and the Yes on 37 campaign is trying to tell them with its new television ad:

But in order to get the ad seen by as many Californians as possible, Yes on 37 is petitioning for public donations at its new Help Fund The Truth! portal, which explains how much money is needed to have the ad air during different time slots on various television networks.
