OPM Director Scott Kupor credited President Donald Trump for the move, declaring that federal employees were wrongly “fired, punished, or sidelined for simply making a personal medical decision.” The order follows a legal settlement with Feds for Freedom, a group of federal workers who challenged Biden’s unconstitutional mandate in court. While this is a victory for bodily autonomy, it comes too late for thousands who were strong-armed into taking the jab under threat of losing their livelihoods, many of whom now suffer from vaccine injuries with no recourse.
A long-overdue correction
The Biden administration’s September 2021 executive order forced federal employees to comply with COVID-19 vaccination as a condition of employment, igniting fierce legal and ethical backlash. Despite a temporary injunction by a federal judge in early 2022, the mandate was enforced long enough to coerce nearly 98% of workers into compliance, according to Biden’s own officials. Those who resisted faced termination, demotion, or exclusion from career opportunities in a blatant violation of medical privacy and informed consent.
Marcus Thornton, president of Feds for Freedom, hailed the settlement as a “long-overdue confirmation” that the mandates were “unconstitutional, immoral, and un-American.” Attorney Trent McCotter, who represented the group, acknowledged that while the settlement cannot undo the harm inflicted, it ensures future protections: “Nothing can fully compensate employees for the harms suffered, but today’s settlement provides critical prospective relief.”
The mandate’s devastating fallout
The Biden administration’s heavy-handed approach set a dangerous precedent, weaponizing employment to enforce compliance with a rapidly developed medical product. Countless federal workers, including military personnel, healthcare staff, and law enforcement, were forced to choose between their principles and their paychecks. Many who reluctantly took the jab now face emerging evidence of vaccine-related injuries, from myocarditis to neurological disorders, with little acknowledgment from the same government that mandated the shots.
Even after Biden rescinded the order in May 2023, agencies continued to reference vaccination status in personnel decisions, leaving a stain on the careers of those who resisted. The new OPM memo erases that stain, mandating the removal of all vaccine-related data within 90 days unless employees opt to retain their records. Agencies must certify compliance by September 8, 2025, marking a hard deadline that finally closes the book on this dark chapter of federal overreach.
A warning for the future
This victory underscores a critical lesson: government coercion in healthcare must never be tolerated. The COVID-19 mandates were a gross abuse of power, exploiting fear to strip Americans of their right to bodily autonomy. And although the Trump administration’s corrective action may be commendable, it cannot undo the suffering of those who were bullied into taking an experimental medical product that is now linked to thousands of adverse events reported in VAERS and other independent databases.
The settlement also exposes the hypocrisy of the Biden administration, which touted “science” while ignoring natural immunity, suppressing early treatments, and dismissing legitimate safety concerns. As Kupor noted, “Things got out of hand during the pandemic.” That’s an understatement. The federal government became a bully, and ordinary Americans paid the price.
