DAMAGE CONTROL: Germany plotting to attack Crimean Bridge in Russia, leaked recording shows
03/05/2024 // Ethan Huff // Views

The full recording of German officials discussing plans to secretly help Ukraine damage Russia's strategic Crimean Bridge has dropped, and it is a real doozy.

Late last week Russian security officials leaked news about the recording, which reveals that European Union (EU) powerhouse Germany has been scheming up ways to attack the Crimean Bridge in Russia, but covertly so it looks like Ukraine did it.

The leaked audio exposes German military officials for plotting to send Taurus missiles to Ukraine in such a way as to avoid accusations of direct involvement in the war – this is the same thing the United Kingdom and other Western powers are doing.

RT editor-in-chief Margarita Simonyan dropped the news about the recording late last week, and now it is here in all of its 32-minute, subtitled glory for the world to hear – listen below.

The recorded conversation is said to have occurred on February 19, and Russian security officials reportedly gave it to Simonyan to share publicly. The four people heard in the conversation include German Air Force General Ingo Gerhartz; the branch's deputy chief of staff for operations, Brigadier-General Frank Graefe; and two personnel from the German Space Command Air Operations Center.

Germany prepares for war with Russia

The recording was confirmed as legitimate by German sources, which say they are now in the process of conducting an investigation to determine how the conversation was intercepted and leaked.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova is demanding an explanation from Berlin, while former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has come forward to declare that the recording's contents leave no doubt that "Germany is preparing for a war with Russia."

In the recording, the four German officials talk about how to deliver the long-range Taurus missiles to Ukraine in an unassuming way, as well as discuss the operational and targeting details of the weapons. The four also talk about how to maintain plausible deniability so Germany can avoid being accused of directly involving itself in the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

As for the Crimean Bridge, the German officials admit in the conversation that all-out destroying it is probably not possible because of how sturdily it was built. Damaging it, however, could still be an option.

"There are a lot of people with an American accent walking around [in Ukraine] in civilian clothes," Gerhartz is also heard stating during the discourse, suggesting that Germany is well aware of the fact that other Western militaries, including those of the UK and the United States, are already operating on the ground in Ukraine.

Other details of the conversation include a discussion about the efficiency of the Franco-British cruise missile called Storm Shadow in the UK and SCALP in France, a weapon that both countries have reportedly "donated" to Ukraine.

The Volodymyr Zelensky regime is also eager to get its hands on Taurus missiles with Kiev having asked Germany to send some over in order to target the Crimean Bridge, which connects eastern Crimea to the Krasnodar Region across the Kerch Strait.

In order to successfully strike the Crimean Bridge, Germany would have to obtain additional satellite data, as well as deploy the weapons from French Dassault Rafale fighter jets. Preparing for such an attack would also take a least a month of preparation.

Because of the sheer size of the Crimean Bridge, Europe's longest, sending even 20 missiles to strike it would not be enough to cause significant damage, the German officials admitted in the conversation.

"They want to destroy the bridge ... because it has not only military strategic importance, but also political significant," Gerhartz is heard stating in the conversation, apparently referring to officials in Kiev.

"It would be concerning if we have direct connection with the Ukrainian armed forces."
