Biden agrees to a deal that allows the border to be SHUT DOWN when Texas gets overwhelmed – But why wait? Shut it down now!

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott's opposition to President Joe Biden's very lax immigration policies has forced the federal government to cut a deal with Republicans on border reforms.

On Jan. 26, Biden announced that the border deal currently being negotiated in Congress would be the "toughest and fairest" set of reforms possible and includes provisions for when the federal government should "shut down the border." (Related: Abbott declares the federal government HAS FAILED TEXAS by refusing to protect the border and defend against migrant invasion.)

The deal, which is still being negotiated and has yet to be approved by the Senate, would see the White House agree to new, lower limits on the number of people who can claim asylum at the border.  Border Patrol would also be given a new power of expulsion, allowing agents to rapidly return migrants who have crossed the border illegally to Mexico on days when migrant encounters at the border surpass 4,000 per day.

If encounters pass 5,000 per day, the use of the new expulsion authority would be mandatory. The new expulsion authority does not prevent migrants from trying to claim asylum at legal border crossings. But when the expulsion authority is active, the number of people allowed to claim asylum at legal border crossings would be limited to 1,400 per day.

The agreement also aims to screen asylum cases within six months compared with the current system, which allows applicants ineligible to receive asylum to stay in the U.S. for up to 10 years.

Furthermore, the bill gives the federal government the power to hire an additional 1,300 Border Patrol agents, 375 new immigration judges and 1,600 new asylum officers, and the power to install "over 100 cutting-edge inspection machines" to help detect and stem the flow of fentanyl across the border, according to the president.

House Republicans vow to oppose deal

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) has garnered enough support among House Republicans to ensure that the deal Biden has negotiated in the Senate will not receive the approval of the House of Representatives, with Johnson arguing that the deal still incentivizes migrants to continue attempting to cross the border illegally.

Furthermore, Johnson noted that it also does not address the root of the problem, which is the federal government's unwillingness to "enforce the laws already on the books."

"If rumors about the contents of the draft proposal are true, it would have been dead on arrival in the House anyway," wrote Johnson in a letter to House Republicans. "Republicans will vigorously oppose any policy proposal from the White House or Senate that would further incentivize illegal aliens to break our laws."

"Many of our constituents have asked an important question: 'What is the point of negotiating new laws with an administration that will not enforce the laws already on the books?'" Johnson continued. "If President Biden wants us to believe he is serious about protecting our national sovereignty, he needs to demonstrate his good faith by taking immediate actions to secure it."

The deal in the Senate, being negotiated with the help of Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY), has in the name of bipartisanship included several provisions contentious to House Republicans, including an agreement to increase the number of available migrant visas to 250,000 and widen the number of migrants that would be eligible to receive green cards.

Johnson further noted that he and other more hardline members of the House Republican caucus are upset that the deal does not include a specific restriction on parole, or the federal government's authority to let migrants not otherwise legally authorized to enter the country live and work in the U.S. temporarily.

For this deal to have any chance of surviving contact with the GOP-dominated House, Johnson is demanding stricter limits on parole and reviving the "Remain in Mexico" policy of former President Donald Trump.
