Four Hamas operatives apprehended in Germany and the Netherlands for planning attacks on Jewish institutions

Four alleged members of the militant Islamist group Hamas have been apprehended in coordinated operations in Berlin and Rotterdam over suspicions that they were planning a terrorist attack against Jewish institutions in Europe.

The individuals, namely Abdelhamid Al A., Mohamed B., Ibrahim El-R., and Nazih R., were detained after they became involved in finding and storing weapons in Berlin for this purpose. One of the detainees is Dutch, two were born in Lebanon and the fourth is a citizen of Egypt.

The arrested individuals are identified as "long-standing members of Hamas who have participated in Hamas operations abroad," and they have close links to the organization's military branch. Allegedly under the direction of Hamas leadership, Abdelhamid initiated the search for an "underground weapons cache" in the spring, just months before the group launched a surprise attack on Israel in October from Gaza.

The hidden weapons were subsequently transported to Berlin and strategically stored to be "kept in a state of readiness" for potential terrorist attacks against Jewish institutions in Europe.

The four suspects collaborated closely, working together and making repeated trips from Berlin in October. Three of them, linked to Hamas, were detained in Berlin, while one was arrested in Rotterdam.

The arrests followed increased attacks on Jews and Jewish institutions in Germany, prompting German Justice Minister Marco Buschmann to emphasize the need to protect Jews in the country and ensure their safety.

"Following the terrible attacks by Hamas on the Israeli population, attacks on Jews in Jewish institutions have also increased in our country in recent weeks," Buschmann said. "We must therefore do everything we can to ensure that Jews in our country do not have to fear for their safety again."

The announcement coincides with a call for "violent acts" against Americans and Britons by a senior Hamas official, according to Israeli intelligence.

Seven other suspected Hamas operatives arrested

In a related development, Israeli intelligence revealed that at least seven terror suspects arrested in Europe were planning an operation on behalf of Hamas.

Denmark's security and law enforcement agencies, in collaboration with Israeli intelligence, arrested seven terrorists acting on behalf of Hamas. The goal of the thwarted attack was to kill innocent civilians on European soil.

The Mossad spy agency disclosed that Danish agencies had exposed a "Hamas infrastructure on European soil."

The suspects arrested in Denmark and the Netherlands are believed to be part of this broader network planning attacks for Hamas.

The arrests underscore the ongoing security concerns in Europe, with heightened vigilance during the Christmas holiday period.

European Union officials had previously warned of a "huge risk of terrorist attacks" over the holiday season, citing the aftermath of the conflict between Israel and the Palestinian militant group Hamas as a contributing factor.

Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen spoke about the arrests to reporters at the European Union Summit in Brussels.

She said: "This is extremely serious. It is completely unacceptable in relation to Israel and Gaza, that there is someone who takes a conflict somewhere else in the world into Danish society."

Earlier this month, the European Union's home affairs commissioner, Ylva Johansson, made a grim warning that Europe faces a “huge risk of terrorist attacks” over the Christmas holiday period due to the fallout from the war between Israel and the Palestinian militant group Hamas.
