FBI, CDC refused to investigate Chinese biolab in California despite repeated requests by federal and local officials

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) refused to conduct a proper investigation into illegal Chinese bioweapons research laboratories found in California.

This is according to a report released by the House Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), which noted that the FBI had closed its inquiry into the biolab found in Reedley, California in early August "because the bureau believed that there were no weapons of mass destruction on the property," a claim that totally dismissed the concerns of Fresno County officials.

These same local officials also spent months attempting to reach the CDC which, according to Rep. Jim Costa, a Democrat who represents Reedley, "refused to speak with them and, on a number of occasions … hung up on them mid-conversation." "Local officials were begging and were getting hung up on – begging them to investigate," noted Ben Armstrong in The New American. "And they wouldn't."

"Then, there was immense pressure, and they finally go in there and they decide, 'Oh yeah, there's bioweapons stuff, but we're not gonna test it because we don't want it on record how bad the bioweapons stuff is,'" he added.

Dangerous pathogens like HIV and Ebola found in illegal biolab

The FBI and the CDC ignored multiple appeals from state and federal officials and agencies to conduct a thorough investigation into the biolab even though when the public safety risks posed by the illegal lab's operation came to light, it was immediately apparent that thousands of vials of various biological substances were found at the lab, including some carrying the label "HIV," and a whole freezer full of biological samples marked "Ebola."

City of Reedley Code Enforcement Officer Jesalyn Harper, who first discovered the illegal biolab, reported that the lab had various manufacturing devices, laboratory equipment, medical-grade freezers, lab mice and, of course, thousands of vials filled with a variety of dangerous biological substances.

It was only with the intervention of the House CCP Committee that CDC officials finally conducted an investigation into the lab. This investigation found nearly 20 dangerous infectious agents that had many "serious or lethal human diseases."

Some of the dangerous biological substances identified were SARS-CoV-2, chlamydia, HIV, E. coli, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Hepatitis B and C, the dengue virus, the rubella virus and malaria.

But even despite repeated exhortations by local officials – who generously offered to pay for the testing – the CDC decided not to go through the trouble of testing samples or examining vials that were not labeled.

The CDC knew that "absent testing, local officials would have to destroy all samples pursuant to a forthcoming abatement order."

"The CDC's refusal to test any pathogens with the understanding that local officials would otherwise have to destroy the samples through an abatement process makes it impossible for the Select Committee to fully assess the potential risks that this specific facility posed to the community," read the House CCP Committee's report. "It is possible that there were other highly dangerous pathogens that were in the coded vials or otherwise unlabeled. Due to government failures, we simply cannot know."
