Iran calls for TEMPORARY CEASEFIRE in Gaza
11/05/2023 // Ethan Huff // Views

There is talk of a temporary ceasefire in the Middle East, at least this is the focus of Iran in trying to work together with Qatar to stop all fighting for the time being in preservation of Palestinian lives.

Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian announced this week that his country and Qatar are putting together political initiatives that they hope will result in a truce – for the time being, anyway.

Amir-Abdollahian says a discussion about the matter took place at a recent gathering in Doha, Qatar's capital. Prior to returning to Tehran after another brief stop in Turkey, he spoke about how a truce "could [possibly] lead to extensive transfer of humanitarian aid to Gaza."

So far, about 9,000 Palestinian lives – more than 3,600 of them being children – have been lost in Gaza ever since Israel launched an airstrike campaign as well as a limited (so far) ground invasion of the Palestinian territory.

"Under the aegis of the truce, we will witness exchange of civilian prisoners between the two sides, which includes the release of all female Palestinian prisoners," Amir-Abdollahian stated.

According to Iran, Gaza's resistance groups, which include Hamas, conducted Operation al-Aqsa Storm (the October 7 attack) with the intention of freeing primarily women, adolescents, and children of Palestinian blood "from Israeli prisoners."

(Related: According to The Wall Street Journal, Iran helped plot the Hamas attack on Israel "over several weeks.")

Israel now "madly" bombing Gaza civilians due to "confusion and shock" of Palestinian resistance, Iran says

While in Doha, Amir-Abdollahian told the head of Hamas' Politiburo, Ismail Haniyeh, that Israel's most recent attacks on Gaza have already resulted in the deaths of some 50 captives who were being held by the Palestinian resistance.

"Some of those captives were being held in the basement of hospitals that were thought to be safe," he clarified.

Others of the victims died during Israeli airstrikes against the al-Ahli Baptist Hospital in Gaza on October 17. That Israeli bombing resulted in the deaths of at least 500 civilians.

Preparations are now underway for the leaders of the members of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to converge in Saudi Arabia "in near future" to discuss the matter further.

According to Amir-Abdollahian, Israel is now "madly" bombing civilians in Gaza, including women and children, "due to the confusion and shock that they have received" from the Palestinian resistance operation.

Amir-Abdollahian confirmed that he followed up on earlier consultations with Iranian President Ebhrahim Raisi concerning the planned meeting of the OIC, with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan welcoming President Raeisi's call for an "immediate" convention of all members.

If Israel continues to indiscriminately bomb Gaza, the Palestinian resistance has already said it will make "appropriate decisions" about what to do in response. Israel would seem to be encountering problems of its own, though.

"The Israeli regime's efforts to enter Gaza by land over the past three days have also been met with failure," reported Press TV, citing claims from Amir-Abdollahian.

In a statement on Monday, the OIC said that Israel's ongoing and relentless bombardment of the besieged Gaza Strip constitutes war crimes, not to mention a flagrant violation of international law.

The general view among these Arab nations is that Israel is "butchering" thousands of people, and that this must be dealt with promptly.

"You are committing genocide, not touching Hamas," one commenter wrote, speaking directly to Israel. "You stated you want to 'destroy' Hamas, but you can't touch them."

"You don't want the people to receive any aid, water, food, electricity, internet – a total and complete siege. But if this is your 'logic' for your 'war,' then there is an answer for your evil."
