Political analyst Timur Fomenko pointed this out in an Oct. 2 piece for Russia Today (RT). "The pandemic is long over and firmly a thing in the past," he wrote. A return to lockdowns, mask mandates and vaccination campaigns is "another trip down a rabbit hole," Fomenko continued.
According to him, people witnessed how Western governments – alongside Big Pharma and Big Tech – used COVID-19 as "scaremongering" to fulfill their commercial goals. This led to the public's trust being ruined, translating to skepticism and indifference over COVID-19 restrictions – if not active resistance.
Fomenko also mentioned how Western governments intensified their efforts to control the prevailing narrative on social media platforms. This they did by labeling dissenting viewpoints as "misinformation" and malicious propaganda from countries like China and Russia. "The COVID-19 pandemic thus saw one of the most comprehensive censorship campaigns Western governments had ever undertaken (at least before that of the Ukraine conflict), especially when it came to those who sought to question or challenge the need for vaccines. Governments have tried to aggressively reassert narrative control, stomping out dissent against their views, broadcast by establishment media."
Moreover, the political analyst said the COVID-19 vaccines were highly politicized and capitalized on by governments and pharmaceutical giants. The influence of Big Pharma played an essential role in shaping public opinion to favor their products.
"That is not because vaccines are 'bad' but because people saw the profits being raked in by their Big Pharma producers, saw how aggressively governments were pushing for their implementation and were skeptical as to whether the whole thing really served the 'public interest.' In other words, the method (propaganda and censorship) defeated the objective (introducing vaccines to save lives)."
No warm welcome for the return of COVID-19 mask mandates
Now that new COVID-19 variants are emerging, governments and institutions are slowly bringing back pandemic policies, particularly mask mandates so they can order people around. However, the public is now blatantly resisting the idea.
In August, Florida Surgeon General Dr. Joseph Ladapo told the public on his social media account not to comply, following news that President Joe Biden would soon order Americans to wear their masks. Ladapo accused the Biden administration of trying to reinstate "pandemic" tyranny just in time for the 2024 presidential election – the very same thing, in fact, that was pulled just before the 2020 presidential election.
"What do you call re-imposing mask policies that have been proven ineffective or restarting lockdowns that are known to cause harm? You don't call it sanity," Ladapo wrote. "These terrible policies only work with your cooperation. How about refusing to participate?"
Also in the Sunshine State, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis signed four bills in May that permanently prohibited COVID-19 mask and vaccine mandates in schools and businesses. "It makes all these protections that we've done over the last two years permanent," the governor said at the time, citing the laws as an effort to "prescribe freedom."
Thus, Fomenko's conclusion held true: "The public is not interested in making sacrifices again in the name of a disease that is already perceived to have 'gone away,' especially when it is believed there is an agenda behind doing so. Not just Big Pharma's, but also one of power centralization, censorship and narrative-control by governments."
