Denver officials beg Texas border towns to divert illegal aliens away from their self-proclaimed sanctuary city

Denver officials have asked border towns in Texas to divert illegal aliens away from the Mile High City by means of bilingual flyers.

According to Breitbart, authorities from the self-proclaimed sanctuary city have begged border towns in the Lone Star State to distribute the flyers. The flyers, written in both English and Spanish, seek to discourage illegal aliens from traveling to Denver.

Matthew Mueller, the executive director for the City and County of Denver's Office of Emergency Management, sent an email to officials in four Texas cities – Brownsville, El Paso, Houston and Dallas – regarding this concern. He advised that Denver "can no longer provide the same level of sheltering resources to newly arriving persons." Documents provided by Texas officials to Breitbart also said Mueller's office is reducing the maximum length of stay for new arrivals as of Oct. 4.

The Denver official then asked his counterparts in Texas to distribute the flyers or post them in shelters, non-governmental organizations or any other areas where illegal immigrants wishing to travel to Denver could stay.

"Asylum seekers traveling to Denver" are warned that the city's resources "have been exhausted," and that single adult illegals who arrive in the Mile High City can only stay in shelters there for a maximum of 14 days.

"If you are coming to Denver seeking shelter, it is important for you to have a plan. The city cannot provide shelter long-term," the flyer states, adding that housing in the Mile High City is "very expensive and there aren't many affordable housing options available."

Denver never extended help to Texas border towns

According to the office of Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, the Lone Star State has bused approximately 2,400 illegal aliens to Denver since May 18. But Breitbart noted that when the border towns needed help dealing with illegal immigrants, the sanctuary city did not extend a helping hand.

Border Patrol agents assigned to the Rio Grande Valley Sector, which includes Brownsville, apprehended 2,353 illegal aliens on Oct. 3 alone. Meanwhile, agents in the El Paso Sector apprehended 951 illegals on the same day. In both cases, Denver officials did not offer any assistance to the authorities of both cities.

Denver Mayor Mike Johnston declared a state of disaster in the city and pointed his finger at Abbott for sending "involuntary arrivals" to the city. "We still continue to see particularly what I would call these involuntary arrivals, which are folks that have been put on a bus by Abbott and sent to us," he said on Sept. 7.

"Many of those folks had no plan to come to Denver. They arrived here and are trying to get to family in Chicago, they have friends or family in Boston or in Salt Lake City, you name it. For those folks that do want to stay, we're going to try to get them connected to work options."

Denver isn't the only sanctuary city to utilize flyers to dissuade illegals. Even New York City (NYC), which is embroiled in a migrant crisis set to collapse the city, has done the same. A separate Breitbart report said NYC officials have begun distributing the flyers written in both English and Spanish.

The flyer began with a warning against "wrong information" coming from both social media and human traffickers. It then emphasized that the city's resources "have been exhausted" as a result of responding to the migrant crisis. "NYC is one of the most expensive cities in the world. You are better off going to a more affordable city," the flyer continued. "NYC cannot help you obtain a work permit, and you will not be able to easily find work."

It also touched on the issue of illegals being housed in luxury hotels in the city. The flyer states that illegal immigrants who end up in the city "will not be placed in a hotel," further emphasizing that earlier batches of illegals "are now getting letters to move out of the shelter."
