Mayor of El Paso, Texas says his city is now at BREAKING POINT due to influx of ILLEGALS

A mayor in a Texas border city has lamented how his area has reached the breaking point due to the influx of illegal immigrants entering the unsecured southern border.

El Paso, Texas Mayor Oscar Leeser said on Sept. 23 that the dramatic increase in illegal aliens crossing the border has pushed his city to the limit. More than 2,000 people are seeking asylum in the city every day, exceeding shelter capacity and straining resources.

"The city of El Paso only has so many resources, and we have come to a breaking point right now," he said at a news conference. "I think it's really important to note that we have a broken immigration system. It's the same thing over and over again."

According to Yahoo News, "the arrival of largely Venezuelan asylum seekers is part of a larger swell of immigrants who traveled dangerous routes on buses and cargo trains to Mexican border towns near San Diego and the Texas cities of El Paso and Eagle Pass." Leeser added that many migrants from the South American nation "lacked transportation to their desired destinations."

The outlet added that about 350 to 400 people were crossing into El Paso as recently as six weeks ago. But during the past few days, this has risen to 2,000 illegals and more. About two-thirds entering El Paso illegally – 66 percent – are single men, while families comprised about 32 percent and unaccompanied children made up two percent. The city's shelter for illegal aliens can only house 400 people, including homeless Americans. But given the influx of illegals, the mayor said El Paso plans to open a new shelter. In the meantime, El Paso has worked with the U.S. Border Patrol to provide shelter for 6,500 people.

Also on Sept. 23, Leeser – a Democrat – chartered five buses to take migrants to three sanctuary cities: New York, Chicago and Denver. Republican politicians in the Lone Star State, including Gov. Greg Abbott, have been closely linked to this migrant busing strategy. However, Leeser defended his decision and stressed that all the bused migrants were going voluntarily to the cities of their choice.

Even Eagle Pass declares STATE OF EMERGENCY

Further down south, the city of Eagle Pass has buckled from the strain of illegals entering the country, thanks to the Biden administration's open borders policy. This has led the city to declare a state of emergency.

Eagle Pass Mayor Rolando Salinas Jr. did just that, signing an emergency declaration on Sept. 19 set to last seven days unless renewed. The declaration allows the city to access more resources to help manage the influx of illegals at the border. "The city of Eagle Pass is committed to the safety and well-being of our local citizens," Salinas said in a press release announcing the state of emergency.

In a video posted on Sept. 20, Salinas narrated a visit to the Eagle Pass-Piedras Negras International Bridge and described what he saw. Based on the footage, the mayor was accompanied by the police chief, fire chief and other staff members who were "on top of the situation."

"As you can see, this is not normal to have thousands of people down on the international bridge," he said. "This presents a lot of problems potentially for our community."

According to Salinas, many of the illegals entering are single males as opposed to family units. He even pointed out that some of them have criminal records.

"We don't want these people just to be walking our streets," the mayor lamented. "A lot of them do have [criminal] records. And talking to Border Patrol, talking to the [Texas Department of Public Safety], there's no way of confirming who are these people."

"This already has taken a toll on the economy by affecting commercial traffic. But we're going to do everything possible to make sure we maintain the order [and] maintain peace in Eagle Pass."
