Yes, it’s time to criminally investigate the SPLC, a radical left-wing “info terror” group that smears Christians and conservatives

We’ve been highly critical of Attorney General Jeff Sessions in the past over his needless recusal from anything having to do with the bogus “Russian collusion” scandal currently being dragged out needlessly by special counsel Robert Mueller.

But on just about every other issue, Sessions has been spot-on. He’s been the point man for POTUS Donald Trump in his efforts to enforce all immigration laws. And Sessions has also been a champion regarding the protection of the First Amendment’s religious liberty guarantee.

In October, Sessions signed a memorandum 0utlining “Federal Law Protections for Religious Liberty,” in which he noted that it “is a foundational principle of enduring importance in America, enshrined in our Constitution and other sources of federal law.”

This week he is acting on the memorandum: Sessions has established a new Religious Liberty Task Force within the Justice Department to defend all forms of religious expression.

Notably, as reported by PJ Media, Sessions mentioned one of country’s leading hate groups masquerading as a “civil rights” organization – the Southern Poverty Law Center, or SPLC, which the Left relies on to attack legitimate religious groups (mostly Christian organizations) under the guise of ‘exposing hate, bigotry, and intolerance.’

“A dangerous movement, undetected by many, is now challenging and eroding our great tradition of religious freedom,” Sessions said in Washington, D.C., as he announced the new task force.

Saying the movement “must be confronted and defeated,” the AG added that “one group can actively target religious groups by labeling them a ‘hate group’ on the basis of their sincerely held religious beliefs.”

PJ Media reported further:

Sessions emphasized that the new religious liberty task force represents a sea change from the Obama administration, under which federal agencies often used the SPLC "hate group" markings. His direct reference to the SPLC in his remarks suggested that the new task force may investigate the left-wing smear group.

And if so, would prosecutions follow?

Christian groups see relief ahead

The DoJ notes that the new task force will develop and implement “new strategies” that involve “litigation, policy, and legislation” all with the focus of ensuring that religious liberty is defended and protected.

PJ Media reported that Christian leaders are of the opinion that Sessions’ announcement and the task force’s formation are not going to be viewed favorably by the Left-wing smear organization. (Related: Left-wing hate group SPLC now being used by Amazon, Google, Facebook and Twitter to determine … “hate groups.”)

Mat Staver, founder and chairman of the Christian legal nonprofit Liberty Counsel, told the news site, “I think that by the attorney general making this statement today, warning against this dangerous movement, we can predict that [he] and the DoJ will take active steps regarding the SPLC.

Staver’s group is currently suing charity navigation site Guidestar for adopting the SPLC’s “hate group” designations which included the Liberty Counsel.

Retired Army Lt. Gen. William “Jerry” Boykin, the executive vice president of the Family Research Council, also a Christian-themed organization, agreed. “My guess is that Sessions is setting the FBI or some outlet of the Justice Department to take an objective look at this whole concept of hate labeling, its impact, its origins, and its legitimacy,” he told PJ Media. He added that the task force itself might wind up investigating the Alabama-based SPLC.

The group, said Boykin, has particularly targeted Christian organizations. The SPLC regularly claims that Biblically-based objections to homosexuality and gay marriage by Christian organizations really amounts to bigotry, intolerance, and hate simply for taking the Bible’s view of such behaviors.

“Attorney General Jeff Sessions has got to get to the bottom of that problem,” said Boykin.

He very well may be prepared to do just that with the appointment of this new special task force as a means of enforcing the president’s policy objectives with respect to defending religious freedom.
