10 natural remedies for radiation exposure

Radiation

(NaturalNews) You might think that preparing for radiation exposure is only for preppers (even if you identify with that label), or for pessimistic people living near nuclear power plants.

But according to natural healing expert Edward F. Group III, it's not just massive nuclear disasters like the Fukushima meltdown that can expose people to dangerous, health-destroying radiation. Low-level radiation exposure from medical X-rays or radioactive waste from industries such as fracking can add up over time, he says, causing low-grade medical symptoms.

So whether you're determined to be prepared for the worst case scenario, or just want to heal your body from low-grade damage that comes from living in a toxic environment, the following 10 natural radiation remedies are for you.

1. Iodine

The most famous radiation remedy is iodine, an essential nutrient that plays a key role in the production of thyroid hormones. Because radioactive iodine is a major product of nuclear explosions (including nuclear weapons and nuclear meltdowns), thyroid damage and cancer are a common result of exposure to these disasters. Among people exposed to radiation, quickly taking iodine can fill the thyroid gland's stores, thus preventing the uptake of radioactive forms. This is intended only as a short-term remedy, however, and is not for regular use. Fortunately, radioactive iodine dissipates from the environment relatively quickly.

2. Potassium orotate

Did you know that potassium can also protect your body from radioactive isotopes, most notably the very long-lived isotope cesium-137? Cs-137 is a byproduct of fission, and is thus produced by both nuclear power plants and nuclear weapons.

Consuming high levels of potassium prevents your body from taking up Cs-137, which is a good reason to make sure you get plenty of this essential nutrient. In the case of an actual nuclear disaster, supplementation with potassium provides extra protection.

3. Calcium/magnesium

Calcium and magnesium are two more essential nutrients that can help protect the body from radioactive isotopes – in this case, the isotope strontium-90, another byproduct of nuclear weapons or nuclear meltdowns.

4. Clay

Continuing on the theme of minerals, many varieties of clay bind to nuclear waste, which is then flushed from the body along with the clay itself. Many of these clays are safe to eat, including Kaolin, Red Clay, Bentonite, Fuller's Earth, Montmorillonite and French Green Clay. And some may even provide other benefits such as binding to heavy metals or dangerous chemicals.

Use clay with caution however, especially for long-term cleanses. Tests by Natural News Labs have revealed that the popular cleansing clay known as zeolites is heavily contaminated with aluminum and lead. Do your research before consuming any product!

5. Activated charcoal

Like clay, activated charcoal can bind to substances in the stomach, preventing their absorption by the body. Studies have shown that charcoal can also neutralize radioactive isotopes, with 10 grams being able to neutralize as much as 7 grams of radioactive material.

6. Papain

At least one study found that this papaya enzyme dramatically increased survival in rats exposed to normally lethal amounts of radiation. All the control rats died, but half the papain-supplemented rats survived.

7. Bee pollen

Studies have shown that consumption of bee pollen may reduce negative side effects from radiation therapy, X-rays and radium exposure. This may be because it boosts the recovery of blood cells killed by radiation.

8. Beets

Beets help the body build hemoglobin, which is destroyed by radiation. At least one study showed that rats eating beets showed less effect from exposure to Cs-137 than did a control group.

9. Cold-pressed organic vegetable oils

Oils help build up protective cell membranes, and can also bind to radioactive isotopes. Numerous studies have shown that rodents eating vegetable oils are more likely to survive high-level X-ray exposure. If you are exposed to radiation, sources recommend drinking 4 ounces of oil.

10. Organic brewer's yeast

Brewers yeast is said to help protect the body from radiation, and then also to aid in its repair after exposure. This is a food product with no known side effects. To help recover from chronic, low-level radiation exposure, adults should consume doses of 25 to 50 mg, while children can be given 5 to 15 mg.
