The health benefits of keeping Himalayan salt lamps in your home

Salt lamps

(NaturalNews) If you've never heard of Himalayan salt lamps – and most people haven't – you don't know what you're missing in terms of how they can dramatically improve your overall health.

First of all, it's probably best to tell you what Himalayan salt actually is. As noted by Mountain Rose Herbs:

Himalayan Pink salt is one of the purest salts available for culinary, therapeutic and cosmetic uses. This luxurious and delectable salt has beautifully formed crystals which range in color from off-white to a lustrous pink. Himalayan Pink salt is a pure, hand-mined salt that is derived from ancient sea salt deposits, and it is believed to be the purest form of salt available.

'A wide range of health benefits'

Because of its purity it is also believed to provide amazing health benefits. In addition, there are also Himalayan pink salt lamps, which, as noted by Critical Cactus, are a popular negative ion generator and can help purify the air.

With all types of wireless devices in use today as the "Internet of Things" continues to expand, many release invisible ions into the air and into the environment, which create a kind of electronic smog that is continually hammering our bodies.

As noted by "McShane" writing at Natural News blogs:

These positive ions cause a wide range of other health problems like mental issues, insomnia, and allergies to name a few. All these health hazards appear because this electronic smog is more than 20 times higher than what our brain is capable of withstanding. It is critical that we start neutralizing these harmful ions. These are positive ions. So you must create negative ions to neutralize them!

"As all living systems (including human beings) are bioelectric in nature, the electrically charged particles affect the way we feel and act," said G.S. Rahi, associate professor of Physical Science at Fayetteville State University, when discussing Himalayan pink salt.

"In a natural setting, a balance of positive and negative ions contributes to one's sensations and perceptions. Atmospheric ions can affect health, well-being, efficiency, emotions, and mental attitude of human beings."

Chunks of Himalayan pink salt are also said to relieve migraine headaches, allergies and other disorders. As noted by Critical Cactus, one of the "boldest" claims regarding its health benefits is its ability to bolster energy levels:

One of the boldest claims. Because positive ions sap your body of energy, HPS lamps can make you more energetic. Often the link between being out in nature (where negative ions are abundant) and feeling invigorated is attributed to these lamps too.

Two caveats; is the amount of negative ions emitted sufficient and are the energizing effects of being in nature solely caused by negative ions or are there other factors such as beautiful scenery, fresh air etc. in play?

Superior culinary choice as well

As for the negative ions, they are said to improve your mood, and can assuredly benefit those who suffer from seasonal depression (without mind-altering drugs!), and may also be useful against other forms of depression (definitely not something Big Pharma wants you to know).

It should be noted that during a clinical trial involving "high density negative ion exposure," moods were improved. But during "low density" exposure moods also improved by 17 percent, Critical Cactus reported. The sited also noted that plenty of evidence exists showing negative effects and even increased morbidity from positive ions, while negative ions have been proven to be beneficial.

"Claims that the lamps boost serotonin production are plausible but unproven; the only way to measure serotonin activity in the brain of a living human is by a painful and dangerous spinal tap, so scientific studies rarely look at that neurotransmitter directly," the site noted further.

Himalayan pink salt also contains far more calcium, iron, potassium and magnesium than regular table salt, making it a far superior culinary choice.
