Use natural remedies to grow back receding gums

Receding gums

(NaturalNews) Receding gums can be a real kick in the teeth. If you're suffering with this extremely common form of gum disease, you may be relieved to know that this condition effects many adults over 40. Receding gums occur when your gums pull away from the surface of your teeth to expose your roots, according to Healthline.

As with any medical condition, early diagnosis is the key to finding a successful way to treat the condition and prevent it from progressing – but you might be better off looking for a natural remedy rather than heading to the pharmacy.

What causes receding gums?

Receding gums may be caused by a variety of things, and the condition is not necessarily due to poor dental hygiene. You might develop receding gums if you are taking a medication that causes your mouth to be drier than normal. If you have a dry mouth, your gums and tissues will become extremely vulnerable to infection – encouraging the growth of bacteria associated with the condition.

According to Healthline, receding gums may also occur if:

• You have been brushing your teeth too hard for a long time
• You haven't brushed your teeth enough, allowing plaque to build up
• You are smoker
• You have a condition that has caused hormonal changes
• You have a family history
• You are diabetic
• You have HIV or AIDS

Whatever the underlying cause, receding gums occur when there is a buildup of bacteria and plaque on both your gums and your teeth – which causes damage to the tissues over time. Once the gum tissue is lost, the roots of your teeth become exposed – creating a gap between the gum line and your teeth, as explained by FindHomeRemedy.com.

Natural ways to improve your receding gums

As reported on Time For Natural Health Care, there are several ways that you can alleviate the condition and help your gums recover. Receding gums are far easier to treat if you catch the problem early on.

Aloe vera

As you are probably already aware, Aloe vera has healing and anti-inflammatory properties that will ease your swollen and sore gums. Try flossing your teeth first and then brush them before applying some Aloe vera gel and brushing again for approximately three minutes. You'll want to rinse your mouth out thoroughly afterwards.

Green tea

Another product of Mother Nature that is well-known for its healing properties is green tea, packed full of antioxidants that help fight gum disease. Try drinking at least one cup of green tea every day in order to improve your gum health.

Oil pulling

This technique can be used with a variety of oils, most often either warm sesame oil or coconut oil. After brushing your teeth, use these oils as a mouthwash. This might not be particularly pleasant at first, but over time you should aim to swill out your mouth with oil for around 15 minutes. The oils protect your mouth from infections and improve your gum health.

Another oil you can use that is good at fighting bacteria and improving your breath is lemon oil. You shouldn't use this method too often, because the oil is acidic and can also damage the enamel of your teeth, but once or twice a week should work well.

Try combining about half a cup of olive oil with the juice from half a lemon in a jar. Shake this jar every day for three weeks and you will create lemon oil, which you can use to massage your gums.

Other natural ways to take better care of your teeth

There are many other natural alternatives that you should consider for your dental hygeine, including using tooth soap instead of toothpaste, which is far lower in synthetic chemicals than normal toothpaste. Meanwhile, activated charcoal is considered to be the most natural and least abrasive way to brush your teeth and is especially good when used in combination with coconut oil instead of mouthwash. Coconut oil reduces tooth decay by killing off bacteria with its antimicrobial properties.
