Hillary Clinton wants to implement Australia-style gun confiscation in America, even as disarming citizens causes crime to soar down under

(NaturalNews) Wait! What? If you make an entire country practically a "gun-free" zone, then naturally gun violence and crime will disappear, right?

That's what liberals believe, because everywhere they are in charge, one of the first things they like to do is to make everyone dependent on them – for their food, for their shelter, for their health care and for their protection. On that last point, then, a liberal favorite is taking away a citizen's inherent right and ability to protect themselves and their family with the best means available – and for many that is a firearm.

Hence, gun-free zones or, in Australia's case, gun-free countries.

Only, as usual, the criminals never pay attention to laws establishing gun-free zones, no matter how many times liberal lawmakers and administrators double-down on them.

After a mass shooting in Tasmania that left 35 people dead and another 23 wounded, the country enacted "sweeping" gun control. As reported by Slate:

"At the heart of the push was a massive buyback of more than 600,000 semi-automatic shotguns and rifles, or about one-fifth of all firearms in circulation in Australia. The country's new gun laws prohibited private sales, required that all weapons be individually registered to their owners, and required that gun buyers present a 'genuine reason' for needing each weapon at the time of the purchase. (Self-defense did not count.) In the wake of the tragedy, polls showed public support for these measures at upwards of 90 percent."

Have you heard this about the Australian gun control program?

The liberal-leaning publication further reported in its December 2012 story following the Sandy Hook massacre in the U.S., that no more mass shootings had occurred in Australia and that gun-related crimes were dramatically lower.

But was that true? Not according to a new exclusive investigative report from Australian publication The New Daily, which says that the massive gun control program created an equally massive gun black market.

The site led with this:

"Australians may be more at risk from gun crime than ever before with the country's underground market for firearms ballooning in the past decade.

"Previously unseen police statistics show that the number of pistol-related offences doubled in Victoria and rose by 300 per cent in New South Wales. At least two other states also saw a massive jump in firearms-related offences during the same period."

The news site's investigation turned up some startling – if predictable – statistics as well, which came from four states: New South Wales, Victoria, Tasmania and South Australia. The data encompasses the various types of firearms offenses that police in those states have had to deal with in the courts over the past 10 years, ranging from 2005/06 to 2014/15.

The data show that there was an 83 percent increase in gun-related crimes in NSW during that period, and an even larger jump in gun crimes in Victoria during the same period.

"Taken together, the data suggests that despite our tough anti-gun laws, thousands of weapons are either being stolen or entering the country illegally," The New Daily reported.

Yeah, but we have the Second Amendment

One academic who was interviewed by the news site was spot-on in describing the phenomenon. Associate Prof. Philip Alpers, one of the leading researchers on firearms Down Under and one of the directors of the Center for Armed Violence Reduction at the University of Sydney, said the outsized gun ban of semi-automatic firearms has contributed mightily to the creation of the gun black market.

"The ban on semi-automatics created demand by criminals for other types of guns," he told The New Daily. "The criminal's gun of choice today is the semi-automatic pistol."

Why are Australia's gun laws – and resultant spike in gun violence – important to Americans? After all, we have the Second Amendment, right?

Because at least one major presidential contender – Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton – has said she favors an Australia-type of gun ban in America.

Asked at an October town hall meeting at Keene State College, Clinton said the Australian model of gun control was "a good example" and "worth looking at," after an elderly man asked her if it would be possible to ban handguns in America.

For the record, Clinton didn't say a word about the Second Amendment protecting that right in her answer, which you can read or listen to here.
