(NaturalNews) Suffering a massive market blow after its parent company was exposed for funding efforts to block compulsory labeling of genetically-modified organisms (GMOs), the Kashi brand of breakfast cereal is back for round two. GMO Free USA has published the official results of new independent laboratory tests, and Kashi cereal was found to have up to six times higher levels of glyphosate residue than other popular cereal brands such as Froot Loops.

The Kashi name is no longer what it once was, with the company having also been exposed by the Cornucopia Institute (CI) for using genetically-modified soy ingredients in its "GoLean" cereal line. Consumers have increasingly been shying away from this faux-healthy brand ever since, especially as Kashi's parent company, Kellogg's, has proven itself to be an enemy of food labeling transparency.

Now, after deciding to jump on the Non-GMO Project verified bandwagon with some of its products in an attempt to boost the company's image, Kashi is once again in hot water after a glyphosate residue test showed that a single box of GoLean Original cereal contained levels of glyphosate, the primary active ingredient in Monsanto's Roundup herbicide, upwards of 0.68 parts per million (ppm). This represents a six-fold increase over levels detected in tests conducted on Kellogg's Froot Loops cereal.

The World Health Organization's (WHO) International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) determined earlier this year that glyphosate is "probably" cancer-causing in humans, which makes these findings even more troubling. Millions of people purchase Kashi products thinking they are making a healthy choice, when in reality they are consuming potentially higher levels of poison than they would if they chose a garbage product like Froot Loops instead.

GMO Free USA also found high levels of AMPA (aminomethylphosphonic acid), a metabolite of glyphosate, in Kashi GoLean Original cereal. The lab report showed 0.81 ppm, or 0.81 milligrams per kilogram (mg/kg), of AMPA in just one box of the cereal, marking the first time that the group has ever found AMPA in any food product.

What this suggests is that Kellogg's is actively deceiving its customers by placing Non-GMO Project verified stamps on some of its products while failing to actually test its product line for harmful contaminants. The fact that Kashi brand products contain more pesticide residue than conventional items like Froot Loops speaks volumes as to the true quality of this "greenwashed" brand.

"During our July tour with Neil Young to educate concertgoers about GMOs, we were shocked to see unverified and Non-GMO Project verified boxes of Kashi GoLean Original mixed together on the same display at a Brockton, Massachusetts, Stop & Shop grocery store," stated Luan Van Le, GMO Free USA's Communications Director.

"This is a shameless attempt to unload Kashi's GMOs onto unsuspecting customers. There are likely thousands of boxes on store shelves across the nation and we're calling on the public to demand that store managers remove those boxes immediately."

The same tests also verified what CI had found previously: that Kashi brand cereal products contain GM ingredients like soy and corn that customers would more than likely reject if they knew they were present.

"The quantitative PCR test documented, by DNA analysis, that approximately 55% of the soy in the box of Kashi GoLean Original contained DNA sequences known to be present in Roundup Ready GMO soy," reports Sustainable Pulse. "Approximately 7% of the corn was also GMO, containing DNA sequences known to be present in insecticide-producing Bt corn."
