(NaturalNews) Nearly 14 years after the most devastating terrorist attack ever committed on U.S. soil, there are some who believe that the U.S. government had something to do with it, perhaps as some sort of "false flag" event to justify going to war against terrorist groups around the world.

You can now add former NBA great Shaquille O'Neal to that list.

As reported by the UK's Daily Mail, O'Neal recently posted on his personal website that he is a so-called "9/11 Truther," in that he believes the attack could have been an "inside job."

In his post O'Neal questioned whether the attacks were planned and carried out by Osama bin Laden and his al Qaeda terrorist network, as claimed by the U.S. government. His post also includes a slow-motion viral video of the second jet flying into the south tower of the World Trade Center on the morning of Sept. 11, 2001, just as the work day was getting started.

The New York Post reported on Shaq's post (which has since been removed but is archived here):

"Supposedly the materials that the buildings are made of wouldn't allow a plane to slice through it as cleanly as Flight 175 did," the post contends. The New York Post reported:

The 7-foot-1 former NBA star also linked the post to his Facebook page and asked: "This might make you think twice...what do you think?"

Shaq not alone in questioning official version of events on 9/11

Apparently, according to the Daily Mail, the post ignited some anger among fans who chided Shaq for reigniting debate over a highly emotional subject.

On the 10-year anniversary of the attacks, Natural News published a two-part series examining this theory and others surrounding the attacks (Part I and Part II).

"For starters," we began, "it's worthy of notation that the U.S. government's account of what happened on 9/11 wasn't convincing enough to elicit support from the chairman, vice chairman and senior legal counsel of the 9/11 Commission."

Officially, Chairman Thomas H. Kean and Vice Chairman Lee H. Hamilton thanked President George W. Bush and Congress, along with the American people, "for their support throughout the commission's work."

And, in a statement released some 21 months after the commission was formed to examine what happened on 9/11, Kean and Hamilton, in a statement, said they believed they accomplished their mandate, which was to "make a full and complete accounting of the circumstances surrounding the attacks, and the extent of the United States' preparedness for, and immediate response to, the attacks," and then make "recommendations for corrective measures that can be taken to prevent acts of terrorism."

"What was told was almost entirely untrue"

Yes, despite this rosy "official" assessment of the commission's work, both Kean and Hamilton were critical of the way they were permitted to do their jobs, complaining during the investigation that the White House was not very forthcoming with official documents and other evidence. They further stated after the commission closed Aug. 21, 2004, that it was really just "set up to fail."

Their assessment was mirrored by senior counsel John Farmer, Jr., who authored, The Ground Truth, a book about the 9/11 attacks, wrote that the commission "discovered that the official version of what had occurred that morning—that is, what government and military officials had told Congress, the Commission, the media, and the public about who knew what when—was almost entirely, and inexplicably, untrue." Continuing, he wrote, "At some level of the government, at some point in time, this book concludes, there was a decision not to tell the truth about what happened."

[NB: After this story was reported on, Shaquille O'Neal denied questioning the events of September 11, 2001, and claimed that his post was actually made by a public relations firm without his knowledge.]
