(NaturalNews) A one-time acting director of cybersecurity at the Department of Health and Human Services who once admitted that he was interested in the rape and murder of children will spend at least the next quarter-century behind bars after being convicted on child pornography charges.

According to The Washington Post, Timothy DeFoggi, 56, of Germantown, Maryland, was convicted in August for participating in a child exploitation endeavor, as well as conspiracy to distribute child pornography and accessing a computer with the intent of viewing child pornography, said a press release from the Justice Department.

"Using the same technological expertise he employed as Acting Director of Cyber Security at HHS, DeFoggi attempted to sexually exploit children and traffic in child pornography through an anonymous computer network of child predators," said Assistant Attorney General Leslie Caldwell. "But dangerous criminals cannot be allowed to operate on-line with impunity. [The recent] sentence shows that the Department of Justice will bring criminals and child predators to justice, even when they employ anonymous networks like Tor."

Caught in a federal sting operation

Tor is software that purportedly allows users to surf the Internet in anonymity. The Justice Department said DeFoggi used the Tor network to access a child porn website between March and December 2012, when the site was shut down.

However, DeFoggi did not simply view the site, the Post reported.

"Through the website, DeFoggi accessed child pornography, solicited child pornography from other members, and exchanged private messages with other members in which he expressed an interest in the violent rape and murder of children," the press release said. "DeFoggi suggested meeting one member in person to fulfill their mutual fantasies to violently rape and murder children."

Tor hid such actions. The software offers anonymity by bouncing users' communications off a network of relays operated by volunteers all over the world. The technique prevents someone who is monitoring your Internet connection from figuring out which sites you visit. It also prevents the sites that are visited from learning your physical location, according to TorProject.org, where the browser software can be downloaded.

According to the Justice Department, DeFoggi was arrested following a sting that targeted a trio of child pornography websites that were accessible through Tor.

The browser's reputation is less than stellar; one study found that 80 percent of visitors to Tor's "hidden services" were tied to child sex abuse.

"Before we did this study, it was certainly my view that the dark net is a good thing," one researcher told Wired online in December. "But it's hampering the rights of children and creating a place where pedophiles can act with impunity."

The pattern of sexual abuse -- alleged and proven -- is not merely limited to federal functionaries. According to recent reports, such actions may even eventually snare an ex-president.

The next Clinton sex scandal?

As noted by The Smoking Gun:

Now that Prince Andrew has found himself ensnared in the sleazy sex slave story of wealthy degenerate Jeffrey Epstein, Bill Clinton can't be too far behind.

The report noted that Clinton and Epstein, at one time, were great friends. It also notes that Epstein, 61, is a convicted sex offender who paid teenage girls for naked messages. His "circle of powerful friends has included financiers, celebrities, politicians, and scientists," The Smoking Gun reported.

And while Clinton appears to have avoided Epstein after his conviction:

According to court records, Clinton "frequently flew" with Epstein aboard the investor's private jet from 2002 to 2005, the year news of the police investigation of Epstein was first reported.

Twenty-one phone numbers for Clinton were also found in Epstein's computerized phone directory, as well as the former president's email address. Contact information for Donald Trump, Mick Jagger, and former British Prime Minister Tony Blair was also in Epstein's records, Britain's Daily Mail reports.
