Global warming advocates ignore quiet hurricane season of 2013; warming data is cherry-picked

(NaturalNews) Hey, did you hear about how strong this year's storm season was, and that the major superstorms that characterized this year's hurricane season were all caused by climate change?

No, you didn't. Because those storms never materialized, even though global warming shills have been screaming for years that, because of a dramatically warmer earth, such storms will become the new normal.

Where are they now?

That's what Colombia-based journalist and attorney Michael Fumento wants to know. Writing in the New York Post, he notes:

The 2013 hurricane season just ended as one of the five quietest years since 1960. But don't expect anyone who pointed to last year's hurricanes as "proof" of the need to act against global warming to apologize; the warmists don't work that way.

Warmist claims of a severe increase in hurricane activity go back to 2005 and Hurricane Katrina. The cover of Al Gore's 2009 book, "Our Choice: A Plan to Solve the Climate Crisis," even features a satellite image of the globe with four major hurricanes superimposed.

Yes, sometimes we get bad storms, but...

Yes, well, speaking of Gore and "inconvenient truths," the evidence to the contrary has been around for a while, even if he and other alarmists (including many who, like Gore, have gotten rich off their warmist fear mongering) refuse to acknowledge it.

Back in 2005, Fumento and others took the time to study and review all hurricane records, which date back a century. They found no increase of any kind.

"Yes, we sometimes get bad storms - but no more frequently now than in the past. The advocates simply ignored that evidence - then repeated their false claims after Hurricane Sandy last year."

And of course, the media - which is filled with like-minded people - parrot the claims unchallenged. If Fumento and a couple of independent researchers can go back and examine the actual hurricane data, why can't a major newspaper, with a much larger budget?

As noted by Fumento:

For example, it somehow wasn't front-page news that committed believers in man-made global warming recently admitted there's been no surface global warming for well over a decade and maybe none for decades more. Nor did we see warmists conceding that their explanation is essentially a confession that the previous warming may not have been man-made at all.

So what gives? Are they truly scientists or is this just a political ideology to them?

The admission, Fumento says, came in a new paper by prominent warmists in a peer-reviewed journal, Climate Dynamics. "They not only conceded that average global surface temperatures stopped warming a full 15 years ago, but that this 'pause' could extend into the 2030s," he wrote.

Then again, even the term "pause" is incredibly misleading, because its use in this context assumes there is a warming trend coming in the future. "You don't say a bullet-ridden body 'paused' breathing," Fumento says.

Indeed, you would have better success prying state secrets from government researchers and officials than getting them to admit the truth about the lack of global warming.

But that's due in large part to the cycle of lies the warmists have regularly told. They can't go back on their word now.

Environmentalism has been relegated to a political ideology

Consider that, five years ago, the head of the UN's International Panel on Climate Change, the organization that is most often associated with "proving" that global warming is man-caused and thus will have horrific consequences for life on our planet, told a congressional panel that the earth is running a "fever" that is "apt to get much worse."

But he and the IPCC already knew that warming had ceased 10 years earlier.

Fumento and others who pointed out the lack of proof in the global warming "debate" were labeled climate "deniers" and kooks. Seems like the kooks, however, are on the other side of the aisle.

Understand that environmentalism, which includes all of the climate-change claptrap, began as a political movement in the United States in the 1960s. A woman by the name of Rachel Carson, a marine biologist, wrote a book entitled "Silent Spring," in which she predicted that birds would be wiped out by DDT.

Carson was later hailed for her work in relating how chemical use could interact with the environment to produce negative results on human beings. Her work would be hijacked by environmental extremists who sought to leverage what began as a legitimate issue into one that could be employed to control the masses and socially engineer American life.
