How mental and emotional stress can physically harm you

Reducing stress couldn't be more important. Chronic stress triggers a wide variety of hormonal changes in the body, due to the release of the stress hormones cortisol and adrenalin. Small amounts of these hormones are usually not a problem, but prolonged (excessive) exposure will promote cellular inflammation - a key risk factor in the creation of disease.

One of the best ways to reduce stress is to support your immune system - which will automatically improve your ability to manage stressful situations in a better way. This means everything from taking time off and meditating to using some of nature's most powerful stress busters.

Four of my favorite 'stress busters'

Chamomile is an amazing herb and does more than just help neutralize stress hormones; it is also a powerful anti-inflammatory. Yet, this is only the beginning of the health benefits of chamomile. Studies have also shown that chamomile may also have anti-cancer properties as well. So, try some chamomile tea today.

Rhodiola is an ancient herb that is receiving more and more attention. This herb was studied extensively by the Russians for the purposes of sport's training and enhancing endurance. Studies also point to rhodiola's ability to reduce stress levels. One dropper full of rhodiola (liquid extract) per day is a nice way to get started.

Passion flower has a range of uses including treating sleep disorders. Additionally, passion flower is seen as a general way to address everything from anxiety to stress. This herb can be taken in tea, capsule or liquid form - depending on your preference.

Ashwagandha (my personal favorite) goes back centuries - to traditional Indian medicine. What makes ashwagandha so valuable for those looking to combat the effects of stress? This widely used ancient herb can help the body control cortisol. This adaptogenic herb helps to keep me calm in stressful situations and I find it very easy to take (everyday) in liquid form.
