(NaturalNews) Mike Adams interviews Jan Lovejoy about superfoods, nutrition and healthy kids:

Mike: So we're talking with Jan Lovejoy here, the author of the new book, Get Balanced. She's also founder of Emerald Balance and the X-Balance product line formulator. How would you describe this book and who is it for?

Jan: Well, it's a very user-friendly reference guide, and the way I organized it is that I put it by body parts. So, we've got brain health, moods and stress, ligaments and joints, heart health, weight management, hair, skin, and nails, and I chose particular superfoods that you can buy at the grocery store or anywhere.

Then what I did is I wrote down the superfoods, how much to take, where to buy it, and then the reason why you would want to take it, all the different vitamins and minerals that are in that, and the protein, and what it does. And then I go into more scientific research for those people that are more like "MacGyver" and less like "Dick and Jane."

That way those people who really want to research… and I have a lot of doctors who really love this book, because they felt they actually learned something from it.

Mike: And it's all about superfoods and nutrition for body systems.

Jan: Absolutely. And then I talk about the nutrients and how they actually work with that particular part of the body.

Mike: So do you get into all the phytochemicals and their impact on different organs?

Jan: Oh, absolutely. Plus exactly how the body works. Like with the heart, what is HDL, what is LDL? What are the numbers you really want to be looking for? How grapefruit juice will really work with that. And if you are taking a blood thinner, you can still take the grapefruit juice. Yeah, it can cut down your blood thinning drugs.

Mike: Right, right.

Jan: Instead of taking more, you can take less.

Mike: Yeah. And medicine normally says don't do grapefruit juice or don't do St. John's Wort, but, really, grapefruit juice potentiates these medications.

Jan: Making them better. That's right, take less.

Mike: So now, where can people get this book? Let's talk about that.

Jan: Right now you can buy it on www.Amazon.com, and also on our website at www.sgnnutrition.com or right now I'm looking at a couple of distributors that want to start distributing it and different vitamin and retail stores, which is great.

Keeping it simple for maximum knowledge retention

Mike: And why did you write the book? Aren't you busy enough with all the products you come up with and running SGN Nutrition?

Jan: Well, really, the reason why is there are superfood books out there, but they are so hard to read, and you just get so lost. Unless you're a nutritionist, you don't want to read it. So I did it in what I call "ADD little scripts". So it's like one-liners so that you remember it, because if it gets too detailed and too technical nobody is going to want to read it.

Mike: Can you give me an example of a one-liner out of the book?

Jan: "Vitamin A is great for the immune system." Because what it does is your body needs more Vitamin A, and this is how much Vitamin A you need to have. And then there will be a superfood there that has more Vitamin A, and then I talk about Vitamin A from foods, from beta carotene that your body is actually going to convert into Vitamin A instead of taking it as a synthetic.

We're talking about superfoods here, and you can't take too much Vitamin A if you're going to be taking it from a superfood like the carrot.

Mike: Right.

Jan: Because your body won't take any more than what it needs.

Mike: Yes. The natural homeostasis in that process, where conventional doctors would warn people, "Oh, Vitamin A can be dangerous".

Jan: I'm a superfood company, I really want people to understand what superfoods do. That they are just so full of wonderful nutrients and vitamins and minerals that our body can actually use and absorb.

Mike: Indeed. Let's talk about your superfood company. What attracts me to your products, by the way, is you manage to get all kinds of interesting superfoods on the label, in the product. I mean things like medicinal roots and herbs, plants. But yet they taste like a chocolate milkshake. I mean, they taste like, "how could all of this actually be in there"?

Chocolate is more than a tasty treat…

Jan: Isn't it amazing? And people forget that chocolate is a superfood.

Mike: That's right.

Jan: Chocolate is so incredible. The new research from it is amazing. It actually helps lower LDL cholesterol, and it helps with high blood pressure. It helps the immune system they just recently found out it brings down lactose intolerance by 85 percent.

And when you add that to a milk, you're not going to have that problem now. We have the body restored. Which is really interesting when you think about it. And that's a superfood. And it's also incredible for the brain and for the brain chemistry. It has serotonin and endorphins.

Mike: Actually, I have some chocolate with me for the show, just to stay alert.

Jan: Yes, absolutely.

Mike: So your X-Balance product. Let's talk about that. That's your newest product.

X-Balance: Superfood for the simple palate

Jan: We have two new products. X-Balance is for the children. What I've done is that I really wanted to address the health issues of children.

First of all, they really want chocolate or they want something that is going to be a lot sweeter. So it is a little sweeter and sweetened with stevia, which also stops those cravings for the heavy, sugary foods that are out there. You add this to milk, soy milk, rice milk. Add a little peanut butter. Throw in half a banana; it's a huge treat.

And it's so great for kids, and they love it. It just gets their brain hopping again. So, basically, X-Balance is made for children. It helps with glucose balancing, obesity problems, but I also added antihistamines to it, natural antihistamine quercetin, nettles. Nettles are extremely good for that.

And lots of Vitamin C because it's known that kids' allergy problems are actually increasing by 20% in the last 5 years, and there are a lot of metal detoxifiers in there. Kids are always being bombarded with all these different toxins in their bodies.

Mike: Yeah, even eating seafood or eating conventionally raised beef can expose you to all kinds of pesticides and PCB's. It's crazy.

Jan: When you think that the kids are getting this very young and it's starting to accumulate in their bodies. Very young, where I think in the 40's, 50's, 60's we didn't have that nearly as much as we have that today in today's foods. So we really need to protect our children, I believe, a little more.

Mike: Now, what's your other new product that you mentioned?

Emerald Balance Plus

Jan: It's actually chocolate Emerald Balance Plus. It has papaya. Oh, by the way, everything is high in antioxidants, a wide variety of antioxidants. Emerald Balance Plus has definitely chocolate, because it's really heart healthy and I want that. There's all these different type of antioxidants. I put acai, pomegranate, mangosteen, leutein... all of these different things because your body takes what it needs.

Mike: Could I see a label of one of the new products?

Jan: Oh, absolutely, sure.

Mike: I want to go over some of this for people. So you have…all right, so the number one group of ingredients is the antioxidant blend. There you have everything from aloe vera, mangosteen, and pomegranate. So much good research now on pomegranate, which is an amazing fruit. Turmeric, which is anti-inflammatory, anti-cancer. Red raspberry powder. Something expectant mothers love to take.

Jan: Yes.

Mike: Acai, blueberry. I mean, that alone would be a complete product for most companies, but you put in a lot more. Barley grass.

Jan: Yes, I love barley grass.

Mike: But it doesn't taste like grass at all.

Jan: Yes, isn't that amazing?

Mike: So you have parsley, excellent for detox of heavy metals. Chlorella, spirulina, watercress. I was just reporting about watercress and the anti-cancer effect.

Jan: Oh, it's the number one anti-cancer phytosterol and it's definitely the highest source. Watercress is actually part of the cabbage family.

Mike: That's wonderful. And then you have a little bit of fiber, but it's certainly not even in one-quarter of the formula.

Jan: No.

Mike: It's just enough.

Jan: It's just to be sure that things are being eliminated.

Mike: Right. And then cinnamon, a little bit of ginseng, some stevia. Cinnamon is great for blood sugar regulation. And then you have an immune support group in here with astragalus and ginger, one of my favorites. Some omega-3's, zinc. Again, I'm so impressed, Jan.

Jan: Thank you. There's 500 mg of omega-3 in here in a double-encapsulated microencapsulated, so there's no taste. What that does is it makes sure it goes to your intestines and then that's when the encapsulation breaks apart so it actually becomes absorbed. All of our vitamins and minerals are micro-encapsulated.

Mike: So for people who don't like to take, say, salmon oil capsules, they don't like the fish after taste. They can get their omega-3's here while they are drinking a delicious chocolate shake.

Jan: Absolutely, and there is no after burps, nothing.

Mike: I can verify that because I've gone through a couple of containers of this already. Again, people can purchase these direct from your website?

How to get your hands on Emerald Balance products

Jan: Yes and we are also in Vitamin Shoppe stores. We're actually, every day we're increasing more stores throughout the nation. And they can go to our website and look at the store locator.

Mike: I want to add a few comments here to the end of the story for readers, which is that in this industry it is increasingly corporate-driven and there is more money at stake year after year. And there are more "suits" coming into the business who really don't lead the lifestyle, they don't understand nutrition.

All they understand is selling something at a margin, and the reason I really love to talk with you, Jan, is that you live this, you are genuinely passionate about your products and you actually care about the health of the people who you're reaching.

You're the kind of person that deserves to have the greatest success in this market. Your product isn't just filler sold for profit. When I think of you, I think of genuine, authentic health.

Jan: Oh, thank you. I am just so passionate about it, I can't tell you. My friend doesn't like me to answer the phone when people call because I end up helping everybody. Well, I'd suggest this and so what are your problems? Thirty minutes later, I'm off the phone.

Mike: Well, you're impacting a lot of people.

Jan: Thank you.

Mike: And I hope that you find continued success. Please let me know how things go.

Jan: I will, definitely. Thank you so much.
