The independent study by the University of Maribor in Slovenia compared colon cancer cells in Deeside water and ordinary water over a 10-day period. Deeside, which is a little-known bottled water brand from the Scottish highlands, inhibited colon cancer cells over 62 percent more effectively than standard and ordinary drinking water.
Many past studies have concluded that antioxidants like the ones in Deeside can be linked to reducing the risk of cancer, among many other health benefits. Deeside Mineral Water Director Martin Simpson added, "We are very, very serious about this, we are not just looking for cheap publicity."
Other studies performed with Deeside's water found that it killed 35 percent of liver cancer cells and 21 percent of cervical cancer cells. Northern Scotland residents have long connected Deeside's water product with overall health, and Deeside's water was even associated with lowering the symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis when consumed over a month-long period in another study.
However, official health claims pertaining to Deeside's water will not be permitted without clinical trials in humans, which have been planned for the future.
