The funny thing is, we don't need a clinical study to tell us the effects of a nonrestricted, high-carbohydrate diet with no exercise: half the country is already on that system, and the results are quite obvious: obesity, heart disease, diabetes and depression.
My guess is this study was funded by some company or industry group that's losing money thanks to the accelerating popularity of the low-carb diet. Thanks to the Atkins diet and the South Beach Diet, people are changing their food purchasing behavior, and a few industries are experiencing plummeting sales. I wouldn't put it past them to try to come up with some sort of study that shows people can lose weight on a high-carbohydrate diet.
