Panaxatriol improves protein synthesis from exercise
05/09/2019 // Michelle Simmons // Views

Researchers from Japan examined the effect of panaxatriol derived from ginseng on muscle protein synthesis after resistance exercise. They published their study in the journal Nutrition Research.

  • In the study, the researchers hypothesized that panaxatriol triggers the mammalian target of rapamycin complex 1 (mTORC1) signaling and muscle protein synthesis by activating both the Akt and extracellular signal-regulated kinase 1/2 (ERK1/2) signaling pathways.
  • They also hypothesized that panaxatriol stimulates muscle protein synthesis when combined with resistance exercise.
  • To test their hypothesis, the researchers divided rats into control, panaxatriol-only, exercise-only, and exercise and panaxatriol groups.
  • Rats in the panaxatriol and exercise group received 0.2 grams per kilogram (g/kg) immediately after exercise.
  • Results showed that the muscle protein synthesis was significantly increased three hours after resistance exercise by mTORC1 signaling in rat skeletal muscle.
  • In addition, muscle protein synthesis higher in the exercise and panaxatriol group.

In conclusion, the findings of the study suggested that panaxatriol derived from ginseng improves muscle protein synthesis after resistance exercise.
