Ashwaganda root extract is known to be one of the principle herbs of Ayurvedic medicine. But new studies suggest that it may be more than that soon.

The study, reported in the Journal of the International Society of Sports Medicine, suggests that supplementation of the root may improve muscle size and strength, as well as recovery.

The double-blind study was conducted over an eight-week period. Fifty-seven men between the ages of 18 and 50 were randomly assigned to either a placebo group or a supplement group. The supplement group received 600 mg of ashwagandha root extract once a day. All the men performed workouts during the intervention period and experienced muscle gains. However, the ashwagandha root extract recipients had noticeably larger gains in size and strength, and also experienced greater muscle recovery.

Previous studies have indicated that the root’s abilities to aid metabolic functions extend to muscle development and cell recovery. Ashwagandha root is known for a host of other health benefits such as improved sleep, cognitive function and metabolic function.

To support stamina, Quinoa, known as the “Gold of the Incas” has been cultivated in the Andes for thousands of years and highly valued by warriors. Take Quinoa and Ashwagandha for your workout.
