Target sells sex toys near children's toothbrushes to promote sex-obsessed pop culture

Target stores

(NaturalNews) Now just to be clear, not all Target stores are displaying sex enhancing items next to kiddie toothbrushes. But for sure at least one is. The item displayed is contained in a box with the name Fifty Shades of Grey. The item itself is a vibrating "male adult ring" pictured on the box.

The actual Target display proximity can be seen here. And it's not the only Fifty Shades of Grey sex item sold by Target. Target's Website promotes the "Love Ring" pornographically with other kinky sex devices under the Fifty Shades of Grey moniker.

But Target's official response to queries about where the displays are placed was: "Our stores are carrying a limited assortment of the merchandise. It's worth noting that it is not exclusive to Target and we directed stores to place the display on a back cap [aisle] in the adult health area of the store."

The Target website description goes on to add that it's "Part of the Fifty Shades of Grey The Official Pleasure Collection approved by author E L James. Supplied with a Fifty Shades of Grey storage bag, Yours and Mine is the ideal erotic gift for fans of the trilogy."

What some Target critics consider even more shocking is the connection to Fifty Shades of Grey, a trilogy of pornographic X-rated kinky sex and hardcore sadomasochism.

What the Fifty Shades of Grey series is about

The trilogy is three books by E. L. James that can be bought in a bundle: Fifty Shades of Grey; Fifty Shades Darker; Grey Freed. It's a kinky romance between a ridiculously wealthy dominating male, Christian Grey, and a young female submissive recently graduated college literature student, Anastasia Steele, whose voice narrates the novels.

Yep, that's the whole three installments, with what some critics consider boringly repetitious descriptions of attempting to achieve mutual sexual satisfaction through submissive sex, bondage, and sadomasochism. Not quite just that however.

According to one critic, Heather Havilesky, there is the play of male domination and female manipulation that escorts Anastasia effortlessly from mundane middle class life into the hallowed halls of the 1 percent.

Apparently Havilesky considered that more intriguing than the cliched sex or paperback Harlequin romance novel fare. She compared the Fifty Shades story line to movies such as "Pretty Woman" and "Working Woman" as another story class of "ascendancy via feminine wiles", but with leather and spankings.

Havilesky writes, "... let's not mistake sex for the main event. The endless manual jimmying and ripped foil packets and escalating rhythms and release-findings are just foreplay for the real climax, in which Anastasia recognizes that she's destined to abandon her ordinary, middle-class life in favor of the rarefied veal pen of the modern power elite."

The endless detailed descriptions of outrageous wealth, control, power, opulence, and amoral privilege in Fifty Shades of Grey offers "an extreme vision of late-capitalist deliverance, the American (wet) dream on performance-enhancing drugs", according to Havilesky.

Havilesky's literary critique appeared in The Baffler, a cutting edge print and online magazine that is published only three times a year. Baffler focuses outside the box of pop culture, art, economics, and politics.

The E.L. James' three part series has been released as a movie, which is very poorly rated, 4.2 average out of a possible 10 on Internet Movie Data Base.

So the Fifty Shades author is raking in the dough off her mediocre lurid writing not only with book sales and movies, but merchandise of the sex device type, including Fifty Shades of Grey, his and hers blind folds, and lubricants for women guaranteed to enhance sexual pleasure and performance.

They may all wind up in a Cosmopolitan Magazine ad someday if they haven't yet.

The increasing cultural obsession constantly craving sex no matter how kinky is reflected by narrowing the gap between household items, day to day clothing, and sex toys and devices in Target.
