(NaturalNews) A household name in mainstream news has given a surprising nod to cancer therapies other than the usual chemotherapy and radiation routine. Fox News, in a piece asking the question "Are you making the right choices?" suggests that cancer patients seek out integrative therapeutic approaches that take into consideration nutrition and immune-boosting protocols to offset the damage caused by conventional cancer therapies.

The one-size-fits-all "slash and burn" approach to cancer treatment has failed as a treatment modality, the article suggests, noting that there's a whole lot more to proper cancer care than simply "ridding the body of cancer cells." Because chemotherapy and radiation treatments don't differentiate between healthy and malignant cells, the damage they cause to the body as a whole can be devastating, leading to more cancer or even death. Sometimes, cancer patients can die from the brutality of the treatment itself.

For this reason, it's important that cancer patients combine both a traditional and integrative approach that's customized to their specific health needs. In order to do this, one must seek out an oncology team that focuses on maintaining a high quality of life throughout treatment, doing everything possible to keep the patient's energy levels and immune function in tip-top shape.

"Therapies to improve energy and maintain the immune system during treatment, manage fatigue and guard against malnutrition are all critical," the Fox News article recommends. "These integrative therapies may include nutritional counseling, naturopathic medicine, physical therapy, chiropractic care, acupuncture, mind-body therapy, meditation and spiritual support. Patients should consider all of these when choosing a hospital and approving a treatment plan."

Integrative cancer approach will lead more people to discover power of alternatives

These recommendations are obviously tailored to folks who wish to go the conventional route rather than what is commonly known as the "alternative" route. Sanctioned cancer treatment protocols like the Gerson Therapy and Phoenix Tears cannabis oil would not involve any chemotherapy or radiation treatments at all, while an integrative approach like the one outlined at Fox might involve both.

Stopping short of recommending an alternative cancer treatment approach as the first line of defense, Fox News at least draws attention to other methods that can be combined with conventional methods to produce better survival outcomes. Cancer patients who adhere to a strict, immune-boosting diet, for instance, will fare much better than patients who rely strictly on the treatments themselves for healing.

"Naturopathic care should also be considered," the piece suggests. "This can include a referral to acupuncture, lifestyle counseling and also natural non-toxic therapies -- herbal and botanical preparations, vitamins, minerals, amino acids, homeopathic plant extracts, etc. -- that help manage symptoms and encourage healing."

"Naturopathic clinicians address a variety of conditions associated with cancer including digestive issues, nerve damage, respiratory conditions and cancer-related fatigue."

Chiropractic, nutrition, and herbal supplements all beneficial in treating cancer

Cancer is a complex disease and each individual cancer patient's body and immunity will likely respond to each treatment differently which is why a single treatment option can't be thought of a solution for everyone. Cancer Treatment Centers of America recognizes this, suggesting that patients opt for chiropractic care to help deal with the musculoskeletal stress and nervous system damage caused by conventional cancer therapies.

Nutrition is also key, which is where the Gerson therapeutic approach comes into play. This popular protocol relies on nutrition to aid the body in healing itself through an organic, plant-based diet supplemented with raw juices, coffee enemas and a series of natural supplements.

"An abundance of nutrients from copious amounts of fresh, organic juices are consumed every day, providing your body with a super-dose of enzymes, minerals and nutrients," explains the Gerson Institute. "These substances then break down diseased tissue in the body, while coffee enemas aid in eliminating toxins from the liver."
