(NaturalNews) Should Dr. Vivek Murthy, a career medical bureaucrat who worked for a while as an internal medicine specialist, replace Dr. Mehmet Oz as "America's TV doctor"? Some believe so, such as one writer at Forbes and this writer at GeekInfinite.

But in the name of medical freedom and choice, let's hope that this doesn't happen.

As Natural News readers are aware, Dr. Oz has recently come under attack by by a compliant mainstream media that got hoodwinked by integrity-compromised hit men posing as medical experts and physicians for the "crime" of suggesting on his popular TV program that not all health conditions and issues should be solved with a pill or drug, as well as outing glyphosate as being carcinogenic and lending support to the GMO labeling movement. Dr. Oz, a cardiothoracic surgeon at Columbia University's College of Physicians and Surgeons, where he is vice chairman of surgery, dared to discuss alternative treatments and potentialities with his viewers, and for that he has been vilified.

Enter Dr. Murthy, who graduated with a bachelor's degree in Biochemical Science, an MD from Yale School of Medicine and an MBA in Health Care Management from Yale School of Management, and was recently named the country's 19th Surgeon General. Though he practiced internal medicine for a while, Dr. Murthy is primarily a medical bureaucrat, pushing and toeing the government's various lines about "traditional medical treatment" which consists primarily of invasive surgical procedures, overmedication and over-reliance on drugs. And while he continues to practice medicine, his new focus now is on his position as "America's Doctor."

On the surface he sounds good but...

In a recent interview with The Washington Post, Dr. Murthy's vision sounded reasonable enough:

My overarching goal is to get every individual, every institution and every sector in America...to ask themselves the question [of] what they can do to improve the health and the strength of our nation.

The health challenges that we face right now are too big to be solved by the traditional health sector alone. We can't build more hospitals and clinics and, solely based on that, expect that we are going to solve the health challenges that we face.

He went on to say that he favors preventive measures, noting that many of the illnesses he has seen in his career could have been stopped.

"A prevention-based society is one in which every institution, whether they're a hospital or a clinic, or a school, an employer or a faith-based organization, recognizes and embraces the role that it can play in improving health," he said. "The truth is, that while hospitals and clinics are traditional health care players, we know that the choices that people make in their lives about what they eat, about how active they are, about whether they ultimately decide to try a cigarette or to use drugs, those decisions are often influenced by factors far outside the hospital or the clinic."

Again, sounds reasonable. But how would Dr. Murthy implement his goals? How would they be implemented?

By government mandate, of course:

The food choices that [people] have in their workplace or in their school can influence the choices they make there too. And what their friends and family are doing at home can often influence the choices they make as well.

So there are profound influences in the community that ultimately impact health. Which is why we have to engage community institutions ultimately in changing our trajectory of health, from one of illness to, ultimately, one of wellness.

When someone in government says they want to "engage" with communities and "institutions," that is simply code for "regulate."

Only Big Government knows best, says the Surgeon General

Remember, the federal government is the biggest purchaser of healthcare and medical services, via Medicare, Medicaid, the VA and now Obamacare. Big Government is also heavily invested in Big Pharma, as is the mainstream media (through campaign donations and advertising dollars). Dr. Murthy represents this "system."

And this regulatory approach is likely coming to a job site near you in the future:

I want to reach out and work with employers, for example, to make physical activity a part of the culture of the workplace. So that as opposed to sitting and working, we are walking and working. So that we are incorporating activity whenever and wherever possible, not only because it contributes to better physical health but because we know that physical activity improves your emotional well-being.

"We know this."

What would a Dr. Murthy TV show look like? Likely it would be a massive pro-government intrusion and vaccine-propaganda-fest, as seen in this video with Sesame Street's Elmo character:

Say what you will about Dr. Oz -- at least he pushes out all healthcare information and advocates for medical choice, so that his audience can make up their own minds.
