(NaturalNews) It's not often - like almost never - that you hear a Hollywood type criticize Barack "The Messiah" Obama in any meaningful way, but if you wait around long enough, eventually even the unthinkable happens.

In recent decades, actress Suzanne Somers has turned away from films and comedy television to focus primarily on health care and health-related issues like wellness and fitness. In her own words, she's used her celebrity status to pick the brains of top doctors, fitness gurus and nutritionists to produce wellness videos and other products that are useful to ordinary Americans who want to live cleaner, healthier lives.

Over the years, she's been successful in transforming herself from character acting into somewhat of a health and fitness expert, so when she talks about the subject, she should command no small amount of respect.

And her diagnosis for Obamacare is anything but good - or flattering for the president.

In a recent blog entry for The Wall Street Journal, Somers wrote that, first and foremost, it's time to call Obamacare what it really is: "socialized medicine":

I've had an opportunity to watch the Canadian version of affordable health care in action with all its limitations with my Canadian husband's family. A few years ago, I was startled to see the cover of Maclean's, a national Canadian magazine, showing a picture of a dog on an examining table with the headline, "Your Dog Can Get Better Health Care Than You." It went on to say that young Canadian medical students have no incentive to become doctors to humans because they can't make any money. Instead, there is a great surge of Canadian students becoming veterinarians. That's where the money is. A Canadian animal can have timely MRIs, surgeries and any number of tests it needs to receive quality health care.

That's a great point. Think about it, pet owners: You can go right into a vet's office and get your pet treated almost immediately, without an appointment, and without hassle. No multitude of forms, no insurance to deal with, no worries that Uncle Sam is prying into your pet's records.

Like it used to be in America, back before health insurance and government over-regulation. Back when doctors would even come to your home, instead of having to force sick people to come to them and fill out reams of paperwork and information that eventually finds its way into some government database.

More from Somers:

My sister-in-law had to wait two months to get a General Practitioner. During this period she spent her days in bed vomiting continuously, unable to get any food or drink down because she couldn't get an appointment with the doctor. When she finally did, the doctor said, "Oh you don't need me, you need a specialist." That took another two weeks until she got a pill that corrected the problem.

Really, is this what we want?

'Greatest Ponzi scheme ever'

This is Canada, folks - that "wonderful health care model" that we critics of Obamacare are constantly reminded about. If it's not the Canadian system, it's the British system - the one that has a 40 percent higher death rate than the U.S.

"Beyond even the shameful quality of care and the shockingly long waits for specialist appointments, essential tests, and life-saving treatments, perhaps the greatest deception of all is the continued reference to 'free' health care for British citizens. The cost to patients and taxpayers is enormous," writes Dr. Scott W. Atlas, M.D., in Forbes.

"Instead of repeatedly waxing that the NHS and its socialized medicine comprise a 'national religion,' it might be better to acknowledge the essence of medical care - preventing, diagnosing, and treating disease for patients, not setting up a massive government bureaucracy," he writes.

Somers agrees. She calls Obamacare "a greater Ponzi scheme than that pulled off by Bernie Madoff."

And if she's wrong - just some Hollywood chick mouthing off - then why do so many health care experts agree with her?
