(NaturalNews) Acid is naturally in the foods that we eat. Some acid in the body is not a bad thing, but when it is in abundance, it can be dangerous and cause the body great issues. Acids can be found in foods like fruits, but these acids are not harmful. The harmful forms of acids come in foods like fried foods, junk foods containing sugars and food additives. The body has a detoxification system that can properly destroy some of these acids, as long as it is in acceptable proportions. However, when a body receives too much acid, over time, this can cause harmful effects and can be damaging.

So how does an acidic food damage the body? Here are a few ways:

Acid Destroys The Oxygen Levels

When a person consumes foods that have a great amount of acid in them, the acidic makeup of that food can destroy the oxygen in the body. The real problem is that every cell and organ in the body needs to have sufficient amounts of oxygen to function. The cells will sustain damage if they do not have sufficient oxygen levels. Even bigger issues arise when the mitochondria inside of the cells are damaged. This is the organelle that houses energy. If there is damage to this area, the body can suffer from a lack of energy. That is why doctors are always telling patients to watch their sugar intake; it can damage energy levels over time simply by destroying the interior matter of the cells. Without oxygen, the cells cannot perform properly, which means the body is not firing on all cylinders; that is food for thought.

Joints and Tissues Are Affected

While acid destroys cells, it is not the only thing that is at risk. When acid is consumed in large amounts, the body doesn't have the ability to remove it. When the acid is stored inside the body, it can also damage the joints and tissues within the body. Actually, the brain can be affected by acid that is not removed. It will build up over time and destroy brain cells. Not only does this high level of acid cause cell, joint and tissue damage, but it changes the pH levels in the body. Acid makes the body acidic, and this can cause it to be a breeding ground for viruses of all kinds. Pathogens are attracted to an acidic environment.

Other Problems With High Acid Levels

Dealing with high acid levels is serious. It can affect the entire body, causing an imbalance. This imbalance can affect the joints, glands, cells, tissues and even the major organs of the body. There are many beneficial minerals that the body keeps stored. These alkaline minerals include calcium and magnesium. The acidic levels in the body can completely deplete these minerals, and this can be a recipe for disaster. Excessive acidity taxes the cleansing organs like the kidneys and the liver and leaves the body volatile for all sorts of problems.
