(NaturalNews) In the late 1960s, a Turkish physician by the name of H. Zima Ozel discovered an ancient natural remedy which encourages remarkable healing and longevity in those who use it. Often referred to as "the Desert Rose," oleander is astonishingly effective in treating cancer, HIV/AIDS, hepatitis C, asthma, epilepsy and paralysis. The extract has even had success in cancer patients classified as 'terminal' by conventional medicine. Although exceptionally beneficial in treating a range of serious disease, bear in mind that oleander is highly poisonous if not handled properly and should be used with extreme caution.

History and benefits

First referenced in 15th century B.C. texts, Mesopotamians noted the outstanding therapeutic qualities of oleander extract. Native to the Western Himalayas, oleander was also used by the ancient Romans, Greeks and Arabs for its medicinal attributes.

Two plant species fall under the classification of oleander, Nerium oleander and Thevetia peruviana. Both contain cardiac glycosides which are extremely toxic when handled or consumed in their raw states yet, when correctly prepared, can be highly useful in the treatment of disease.

Modern studies have shown the extract to be remarkably potent. According to Dr. Edward R. Group III in "The Health Risks & Benefits of the Oleander Plant":

" . . . no single chemical component of the extract can be stated as the sole source of its health benefits, the powerful activity of the plant comes from a highly complex amalgamation of components held within the combined form of the extract. These components work synergistically to boost and stimulate the human immune system, offering support for a wide variety of health concerns."

Dr. Group continues:

"The government of South Africa is currently endorsing the use of oleander extract as a treatment for HIV. Similarly, many universities and institutions in the country are following suit, using the extract for the support of cancer patients."

In 2011, the Federal Drug Administration (FDA) concluded the first trial phase of oleander extract and found it to be safe for use in the treatment of cancer. Bladder, colorectal, breast, pancreatic and appendecal cancers responded favorably to the extract with very little adverse reaction or cariotoxicity. Since the second phase of testing has yet to occur, a pharmaceutical drug based on oleander is currently unavailable for general use. Be that as it may, oleander supplements are accessible, as is a recipe based on the original formulation by Dr. Ozel. Further information can be found here and here.

However, before using oleander products, it's extremely important to heed Dr. Group's warning regarding toxicity:

"While oleander may possess many healing properties, much like many powerful botanical remedies, this plant can also be deadly when taken or prepared incorrectly. This plant should never be eaten raw, as its raw extract form is highly toxic. One raw leaf has enough poison in it to kill a small child, as well as any pet. . . . There have been many cases of poisoning and death due to intake of oleander, oleander leaf tea, and its extracts. Even eating honey made from the nectar of the plant can produce dangerous effects."
