(NaturalNews) So you want to be healthy? You go to your doctor and he tells you to take fish oil and vitamin D. Then you open the Natural News email and discover the benefits of vitamin C and many other great vitamins, minerals and supplements and take them also. It may surprise you to find that there are GMOs hidden in a majority of the supplements out there like GMO soy additives and GMO corn derived vitamin C, vitamin B12 and others. Even health foods are rife with GMOs, like GMO corn derived xylitol, and almost all gluten free products. In fact, any foods or supplements that do not bear the GMO-free label are highly suspect.

Although biotech companies adamantly claim that genetically modified foods are safe, many scientists and consumer organizations warn of serious potential health dangers. Current studies relate GMO foods to premature death, cancer, reproductive trouble, liver failure, severe kidney trouble and more.

Understanding GMO labeling

GMO-free indicates that the manufacturing process is designed to avoid GMOs. But what consumers don't know is that GMO contamination still happens due to natural cross-pollination, seed contamination, and human error. Therefore, even the Certified GMO-free label cannot guarantee that products are 100 percent GMO-free. With certified organic products labeled "100% organic," "organic," or "made with organic ingredients," none of the ingredients are allowed to be produced from GMOs.

Products labeled "made with organic ingredients" only require 70 percent of the ingredients to be organic, but 100 percent must be non-GMO.

Thinking it through

How much more expensive are the GMO-free products? Manufacturers will charge more for the GMO-free products and GMO-savvy consumers will buy them. Any food that is GMO-free will proudly bear the accompanying label. So why are there so few GMO-free labeled products out there? Because a vast majority of processed foods, health foods and supplements have GMO products hidden in them.

Here is a partial list of hidden GMO products that show up in everyday foods:

Aspartame (also called AminoSweetR, NutraSweetR, Equal SpoonfulR, CanderelR, BeneViaR, E951) baking powder, canola oil (rapeseed oil), caramel color, cellulose, citric acid, cobalamin (Vitamin B12), colorose, condensed milk, confectioner's sugar, corn flour, corn masa, corn meal, corn oil, corn sugar, corn syrup, cornstarch, cottonseed oil, cyclodextrin, cystein, dextrin, dextrose, diacetyl diglyceride, erythritol, Equal, food starch, fructose (any form), glucose, glutamate, glutamic acid, glycerides, glycerin, glycerol, glycerol monooleate, glycine, hemicellulose, high fructose corn syrup (HFCS), hydrogenated starch, hydrolyzed vegetable protein, inositol, inverse syrup, inversol, invert sugar, isoflavones, lactic acid, lecithin, leucine, lysine, malitol, malt, malt syrup, malt extract, maltodextrin, maltose, mannitol, methylcellulose, milk powder, milo starch, modified food starch, modified starch, mono and diglycerides, monosodium glutamate (MSG), Nutrasweet, oleic acid, Phenylalanine, phytic acid, protein isolate, shoyu, sorbitol, soy flour, soy isolates, soy lecithin, soy milk, soy oil, soy protein, soy protein isolate, soy sauce, starch, stearic acid, sugar (unless specified as cane sugar), tamari, tempeh, teriyaki marinades, textured vegetable protein, threonine, tocopherols (vitamin E), tofu, trehalose, triglyceride, vegetable fat, vegetable oil, vitamin B12, vitamin C, vitamin E, whey, whey powder, xanthan gum

GMOs - Take them back!

As you go through your vitamins and supplements, cake mixes, soups and other processed foods and you spot suspect GMO products, it is not enough to throw them out. TAKE THEM BACK. Demand a refund or a store credit from the store. Tell them why you are returning the goods and demand GMO-free products. If any food product isn't organic and GMO-free, refuse to buy it. Manufacturers will rapidly respond to cash register sales.

It will take fewer than five percent of consumers returning GMOs to make the manufacturer change things immediately. For instance: If General Mills suddenly had a million returned Rice Chex, and sales also dropped, they would halt the loading of trucks with their GMO-contaminated cereal and turn out a GMO-free product the next day.

One simple way to protect yourself is to download a GMO application for your phone, like this one http://itunes.apple.com/app/true-food/id379459607?mt=8
